Mis-firing???

Ok..
There is a 30 amp fuses located separately from all the others.. It is located near or on the starter solenoid
Check that

If that is ok then..................

You are going to have to try a bit of back door flickery dodgery to quickly find out what is going on

To the left of the battery is the starter solenoid

There is a yellow/red wire going to the top of the solenoid block
You need to use a spare bit of wire and hold one end on the positive side of the battery and the other to where that yellow / red wire goes
That SHOULD spin the motor over..
It is also worth checking the nuts holding the big thick wires on the solenoid ..

John
The 30A fuse is OK
I have checked that the thick cable nuts to the solenoid are secure

There is a connector on the yellow/red wire. I separated the connector and tried a wire from the positive of the battery to the piece that goes somewhere behind the battery. I could not see very well with the lighting in the garage but I will look at it 2moro. Where does it go anyway John?
Cheers mate

You need to connect it from the battery TO the solenoid Pete

It is the wire that activates said solenoid mate ( at least it should do if you feed it 12v :p )

Sorry matey (dont forget I know nothing of these things)
I just thought that if I feed the connector on the other side, that it would do the same thing. I will try that mate and see what happens.

Any thoughts?

I tried this afternoon to start the bike and I heard a "bang". Not very loud but a bang.

Now nothing, the fuel pump comes on when you turn the key but after that the bike is dead and nothing happens when you press the start button.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?????:bang:

What about this incident John?
What was that Bang........

One of the plugs fired as you turned on the ignition, igniting unburnt fuel in one of the pots Pete

Hi John

Ok... from that relay that wire goes straight to the starter button

From the starter button it goes to fuse D ( 4th along from the diode pack ) via a black wire coming from the switch assembly ( if you follow it from the switch assembly to the plug, you will find it actually changed to a white wire with a black tracer.. and just to confuse the issue, the white wire with a black tracer coming from the switch changes at the plug to a plann black wire ! )

So the next step is to use that bit of wire again and this time use it between that fuse and he +ve on the battery, then and press the button..

Let me know the results

Also Pete, ( and sorry about this ), remind me ..

Does the fuel pump fire up
Does it have an alarm or immobiliser fitted ?

Sure you have answered those b4 but I have so many things going on I canna remember who has what !!

Also Pete said:
biiser

Thanks for that mate
The truth is that the 2nd time I tried the wire jump, the bike kicked in.

Yes, the fuel pump kicks in every time

Yes, there is an alarm Immobiliser (and it always worked ok)

I will let you know 2moro how I get on (if I can find thires you are talking about) pmsl @tu*

Ok John.....help, I dont kmow what I am looking for.

The fuses that I am looking at are in front of the battery, when I take the
4th fuse out, the fuel pump does not work. Is that the one?
The are 6 fuses in there 5x10 and 1x20amp.

It sais that the 4th fuse is for: START, BANK ANGLE SENSOR

Yes, thats the one and you have proven it is ok already

Sooo, that just leaves the immobiliser up the swanny or a broken wire to either the start button or the kill switch

I would personally get shot of the immobiliser !
That may well cure ALL your ills ( equally it may be a bit of a red herring ! )

OK, what we are saying here is that I have to disconnect the alarm/immobiliser (I take it its just the one thing). If I was to disconnect it from the battery, that should be it then. I will try it 2moro and see what happens.

The big question is, how the hell did it go wrong just like that? If that isn't it, how the hell can a broken wire happen in the start button or the kill switch? I haven't done anything to them and I always thought that you have to do something with them before you can damage them.:bang:
Anyway, I will be relieved if thats it. On Monday I should have the fuel pressure regulator as well.

John I owe you mate....I will post the results on here.

Thank you

Question for you or anybody else:

Do handle bar raisers work?

Pete, you cannot just disconnect it..
Do you have Skype or can you download it and get it running ?

I can tell you how to get rid of it but it is a little complex to put on here

Once you have Skype installed just click on the skype logo at the bottom of my posts :)

If you cannot do it this evening I am afraid you will have to hang fire until Monday as we are leaving tomorrow morning early for the weekend..

Question answered

Yes.. big time.. One of the most popular items I manufacture in fact

Ok mate, point taken, I will wait for Monday.
Skype name Either Petrosc or Petrosc7

I ll just make this note: I did disconnect the alarm (datatool) when I removed the tank for the ervicing of the air filter, plugs ect. COULD THAT BE THE REASON FOR THE STARTER BUTTON NOT WORKING NOW?

Cheers
Peter

The fuel pressure regulator

Has arrived.

I will change it tomorrow and let everyone know.

In the meantime John will talk on Skype about the immobiliser!

Could not wait for 2moro, so

Ok, The FPR arrived from Canada.

I had it installed and thought I better try to start the bike up. I did and I thought for about 5 minutes that the whole mis-firing/engine roughness had gone away. The smooth running of the engine made me think that the problems were over. How did it work like that for 5 minutes is not explainable. It all went to back to how it was before and the FPR did not sort the problems out.

The engine roughness came back, the smoking exhausts came back and the tick over speed had to be adjusted to around the 1500-1600rpm otherwise the engine died and the smell of petrol in the garage is terrible.
So it looks like the old FPR was not at fault and I have yet another spare item.

What the hell is the problem though? Any ideas lads?

John, hoping to talk to you on skype tonight.
