Mis-firing???

OMG

Noticed something really scary today.

I went out to the local garage, got some fuel injector cleaner, got 15 litres of fuel as well, mixed it all up when I got back home, into the tank and started the bike.

Run ok (with the blue smoke problem of coarse) and I thought I will take her out later (too hot in the middle of the day).

When, I NOTICED that the two exhaust in the middle, were no where near as hot as the the ones on the outside. I thought I better check that the connections to the left hand coil are ok and they were.

I will take the bird out tonight for a 50 mile run, like John suggested to see what happens and I will report.

Any ideas?

Regards

BY THE WAY....THE SLOW STARTING PROBLEM HAS GONE...THANKS TO ALL FOR THE SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICE

Run

for about 20 miles, no difference but thought what if I blow the engine up???

Drinks fuel, mis firing, no change there, I mean no better or worse; I shall look to buy a PR, replace it and if that doesnt do it I will take it the main dealers and GOD help me.

Nice bike, 10000 miles on the clock, in pristine condition with special wheels done by Tuffy, corbin seat, spare exhausts bla bla ready for the scrapy:bang:

Throttle position sensor!
No fault code, heavy on the fuel, misfire, smell of unburnt fuel.etc, etc.

Mine's had it, heard of a couple of other likely culprits. See if you can get a gas analysis in the exhaust, it'll give an insight as to fuel burn, etc

Fixed mine with a part from a breakers and its run like a dream ever since.

Worth looking at before you go round the twist.

Good luck mate.

Hi,

Its the electrical plug-in on the right hand side of the throttle bodies, just below the pressure regulator.

You can't test it yourself, but try and get one from a breakers and swap it over. It does sound like the likely culprit.

Good luck.

The fuel pressure regulator is ordered and should be here by Friday.
I will try that first and if it doesnt solve the problem I will go to it.
Thanks for the info

OMG

I tried this afternoon to start the bike and I heard a "bang". Not very loud but a bang.

Now nothing, the fuel pump comes on when you turn the key but after that the bike is dead and nothing happens when you press the start button.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?????:bang:

Any ideas?

Apart from taking it to main Honda dealers
I am still waiting for the FPR but whats the use now? Should I put it on when it arrives?

Cannot be too much mate..
Are you sure the thing is in neutral and stop switch is not turned off ?

Have you got a meter ?

it is all quite a simple system that activates the starter

Not sure if this has been asked before, but have you any sort of alarm or immobiliser fitted ?

Ok.. first thing .. Does it actually click when you press the button or is it silent ?

If silent we go one way, if it clicks another.

It does not clck John. When you press the start button you can hardly hear a very faint "nt" and thats without the seat in place.

Do we call this silent?

Stuck starter? Just my 2p.

Put it on the centre stand, drop it into gear and 'wiggle' the back wheel. Fingers crossed the starter will disengage, you may hear it.
Then back to neutral and try the starter again.

Jaws will be along shortly to tell you to ignore me and give you the correct answer.

Chris

Also check some obvious things, is the battery OK, what voltage is it sitting at, a, completely off, b ignition on, c starter pressed?

Canna be the starter as the starter solenoid is not kicking in Chris, but know where your coming from :p
Starting at the very begining Pete, put your meter ( set on 20v DC ) across the battery.
Whilst it is on there press the starter button.

Does the battery voltage change significantly ?

All the warning lights come on, the fuel pump still works bla bla

Ok..
There is a 30 amp fuses located separately from all the others.. It is located near or on the starter solenoid
Check that

If that is ok then..................

You are going to have to try a bit of back door flickery dodgery to quickly find out what is going on

To the left of the battery is the starter solenoid

There is a yellow/red wire going to the top of the solenoid block
You need to use a spare bit of wire and hold one end on the positive side of the battery and the other to where that yellow / red wire goes
That SHOULD spin the motor over..
It is also worth checking the nuts holding the big thick wires on the solenoid ..
