Mis-firing???

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem and could help?

My 2001 BB, all of a sudden, developed what I can describe as, an intermitant 4 cylinder and then 3 cylinder working engine almost misfiring. It is so weird.

The second thing is that when you first try to start the engine, there is a lot of clicking, the engine turns slowly, the pace increases and finally it starts in 15/20 seconds. It feels like a lifetime when you are not used to it.

The bike has done 9000 miles and was working spot on six months ago. Then I never used it for 6 months, was in a dry garage, on trickle charge?.never never had I ever had any problem before.

Can anyone help?

Hi mate, what should the readings be? Any ideas? What am I looking for here?
Thanks for the interest.

Hey mate, thanks very much for that.
The thread you suggested is absolutely bril. I will check it all out and solder as said.
I do not get the FI light stay on or anything but I will eliminate the loom with a "fix"
and the connector box......

And, thanks for the V readings, I will try it all.

Any other suggestions welcome.... One of the problems is that I live in the most southern part of Greece now (used to live in Staffordshire) and there aren't many BB owners around here. LOL

Omg, I can't believe it....I ve just got to the link and yes, nobody has bothered.

The only good thing is that you do not have the problem any more.

I have already invested 200 euros, 25/30 hours with no result. I have just ordered a set of coils and ht leads. I will of course try them a.s.a. they arrive.

I will also ride the bike for 2/3 hours as well to try and burn any crap from the injectors with this special petrol I filled the tank with.

Come on lads, HELP IF YOU CAN.

ps I am sorry to have to say that the southerner bit might be right.....it only exists in the UK....lol

Missing Bird Cured

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem cured, was a diaphram within the fuel injection allowing petrol to be sent flooding 2 cylinders, apparently the part was only used on the XX1 and 2 and a newer version fitted afterwards, only cost ?25 to get the newer version.

How do you check this? Does anybody know? What would I need?
Please help

Which cylinders are not firing? maybe one coil feed?

Diaphragm that the guy mentioned on your link is a known Carb Issue on the petrol tap diaphragm. Don't think its a injection issue and I believe he got confused. (May be wrong).

Injectors are controlled off a common pressurised fuel rail via the ECM.

Hey Silverfox
I dont really know but, I am waiting for the arrival of coils and ht leads (I purchased through ebay) I will try the 1-4 cylinders first, right hand coil and see how it goes.

I thought diaphram inside injectors!!!!!omg was a bit confusing, there again ,,,,,,......

Should I do the loom fix?

Regards

Generally firing is two things fuel and spark, get both right and at the right time/amount it'll run.

If you're plugs are wet you have fuel, if your plugs are dry you ain't.

Easy to check the spark, but be careful not to damage the ECM control circuits.

As a point, its worth trying a set of new plugs of the right type, that could be your problem.
