Past my test in 1980....................................shit I feel old now :B
Feck, I had kids & a wife by then... Couldnt feckin afford a bike...:B

Had a Talbot Horizon for years, with a steel 4" square section chassis which wrote off a brand new Sierra saphire when it hit me head on... I broke a nail then (just like Jenny)and it cost me ?36 to repair the car...:}

Cheers,

I passed mine on February 12th 1978 on a CB200. My original test had been cancelled a fortnight before cuz it was snowing through freezin fog onto ice. I complained to the examiner that I had after all been able to get to the test centre and was happy to continue. He fell over and told me to bugger off! Got a cancellation and passed. Was a driving instructor for 11 years (Star Rider) and saw some most assuredly wonderfull riding in that time. The most interesting thing that sticks out however from that 11 year period is the fact that in all that time I only ever had three pupils that could tell me the correct sequence of the traffic lights and that included quite a large number of people who were quick to point out that they were advanced drivers. 8l1nd

Now I have a rather tasty B L A C K Bird which seems to be shredding me back tyre!! 600 pleasure miles in less than 2 weeks!

livit! luvit!

Passed my bike test in a Morgan three wheeler (1934 Matchless MX4) a few weeks after my 16th birthday in 1967. Took the same test in my mums Ford Pop a year later.
My first two wheeler was a Matchless G80S bought for ?7. Then Bantam, AJS 500, Matchless 650 until managed to buy new 850 Commando in 1973 for ?700 form Gus Kuhns in Stockwell road. Thrashed that to bits in a coupla years racing then company car til Suzuki GS550 for few years then no bike 'til 2003 got hold of another Commando then a used FI Bird (nearly got a Buell instead). Now done 17k on it, love it more all the time but would like a big V-twin as well.

Passed in January 1968 on a BSA C15 with a full fairing. Trainee plod at the time and the course took three weeks - one week in the classroom doing Highway Code, Roadcraft and mechanics, including hands on maintenance. Written exams had to be passed before we were taken out on the road. Belstaff waxed cotton suits and 'corker' helmets - no goggles, but then the fairing screen was about 6' high. So cold that when we got back each day we had to soak our hands in hot water to get the fingers to straighten out. On test our examiner and instructor followed a pre arranged route of about 30 miles in a car.(radio sets them days were the size of a suitcase). Needless to say we all p***ed off and left the examiner R#?

Trotsky, I'm only concerned 'cos it fooks our insurance premiums. I agree, if folk wanna go the Direct Death route, that's their problem.

There missing all the fun.
Ah the days of growing up with ever increasing 'CCs'.
Middle aged folk suddenly deciding to learn to ride a motorcycle and missing the whole eagerness of youth and the whole experience of pocket sized smokers that give you a grin from ear to ear as you thrash the gonads off it.

That's why a lot don't know their arse from their elboe when it comes to stripping and sorting bikes. You usually find that it's the riders who grew up with bikes that have a good understanding of more that just tightening a chain and changing a bulb.

Asmooz me, but I'm one of the 10 and I don't (can't) ride a barge. Ok, I will admit to direct death and CBR600, but rest assured Wolfie, I won't be going on to the 1000. :bow:

to be honest i dont care :neenaw: :neenaw:

but i also dont agree with direct death. and i believe that all drivers should be limited to the type of car they are allowed to drive, and most of all i most strongly believe that anybody wishing to drive a car should be made to spend a year on a bike first, so that they learn some observation skills
