to be honest i dont care :neenaw: :neenaw:

but i also dont agree with direct death. and i believe that all drivers should be limited to the type of car they are allowed to drive, and most of all i most strongly believe that anybody wishing to drive a car should be made to spend a year on a bike first, so that they learn some observation skills
And, all new drivers (car or bike) should have to go out with in an articulated wagon (with a driver) so they can see that you should never go inside one when it's turning, amongst other things.

Then they should have a motorway test as well!

can't disagree with that Trotsky, but they'll never introduce such a law.
I think DAS should be scrapped altogether.

I think don't think articulated vehicles & cars mix too well on our over populated roads anyway, so I'd ban anything over 3 tons from using the roads between 7am - 7pm. That would also minimise congestion. Sure costs would escalate, but it would be interestig to conduct a cost/benefit analysis exercise - ya never know it might just reveal that the increase in cost to the average consumer is less than any congestion charging/pay-as-you-drive scheme the Traffic Taliban might come up with :dunno: .

Govt. are doing what they do best......meddling to control folks.

Way back when I started (oh..getting old....) it was moped at 16, up to 250cc as learner and then whatever you wanted after passing your test.

So what happened...... 16 yr olds wanted something smarter/faster than the old style moped (which really pissed me off as the cool mopeds came in after I'd moved on after making do with a Raleigh Runabout!).
Cost limited progression as then to get HP you had to have saved 1/3 deposit - result was a slow progression through a series of increasingly powerful machines. Usually starting off with rat arsed things that you had to work on to keep going - which was how you learned about how to mainain and not just riding 'em.

The folks limited to 250cc wanted something faster so the manufacturers kept improving the performance.
Rules on HP etc were eased and so it became easier for younger/less experienced peeps to buy.

Result was the revised lmits and testing to try and control it.
What's the difference between taking the car test and then jumping into a powerful car - in fact you can drive a Ferrari as a learner if you can afforrd it!!
It's just affordability - the fast bike is more easily bought.

Bottom line is whatever rules/regs are brought in the manufacturers will try and deliver what peeps want - speed and thrills as soon as poss with as little delay as poss.
The govt. will then tinker with the controls to try and stop this, simply 'cause they like controlling.
Never ending circle...............

Sorry - grabbed the soapbox before JAWS could step up....Ok it's free now..

I could almost consider selling my imaginary Bird and buying a better all rounder with the proceeds.

True all rounder Sir? :dunno:
Maybe a BMW 1150 GS Sir or the 1200 Sir? Maybe a V-Strom 1000 Sir or perhaps a TDM Sir? Has Sir considered the KTM Adventure or would Sir find that a tad tall? :dunno:
I haven't ridden one, but I hear the Triumph Tiger is a bit "A" road bias, but has Sir seen the new 950 Supermoto from KTM? Not really a tard, more a "great fookin bike" apparently :dunno: - can't wait to try it :yo:

Yes DS, I'd consider an 1150 or 1200, couldn't buy a poxy Suzuki though. The XTZ is nearly a tip toey bike so height not a problem. TDM, ugly as sin but worth a look, the upgrade or the upgrade for mine. How about the Honda 650 super motard thingy, nice? KTM, Hmmm the KTM dealer isonly 2 miles from me. Husaberg? Far tooooooo many choices. Watch this space.
Honda 650 tard? If you mean the XR and enjoy kick start only, it's a great fun. Husaberg - too delicate and service intervals are a bit of a mare.
You should try the Suzi though - you'd be nicely surprised & the finnish is much better than of days gone by. If ya wanna give the V-Strom a try give me a call.

Passed mine 7.9.1973. On the ride home I got stopped by a DCI in a unmarked nic nic. Got away with speeding.... phew. - said he was in a hurry, (so was I) but I refrained from any witty bollocks that could have made the pile of crap get deeper.

I borrowed my dad's step thru Honda to take my test on 21/5/1970. Already had a 1964 Bonneville at home that id spent the 6 months leading up to my test doing up,so i never had to bother with a small bike...it was so cool...riding around on my 16th birthday on a Bonneville,as my test was at 9AM,by 10AM i was out on it...!!!:yo:

Never been without a bike since & my Blackbird is nearly my 100th bike...!

48 DAYS and counting, on third bike , Sold not crashed

1st bike Suzuki TL 1000s , bought in Oct last year , to spur me on to actually do the test. After a couple of sneaky test rides prior to passing , decided it was shite , but hey what did I know, did a deal on VTR 1000 , again did a couple of sneaky "practice laps" of the surrounding area ( 50 mile radius) liked it but still not completely thrilled, passed test 1st Feb , bought the 'Bird' 1st March , sold the storm , End of :)
