1987 on a C90 stepthrough ...

in S.London, just went round a block of houses, so no zebras, lights, roundabouts etc.

Had it for a couple of years as a despatch rider, then when I packed that up had an RD400 which invariably cut out in the outside lane and lock up the rear wheel requiring me to pull the clutch in and signal with my right arm that I wanted to pull in quickly.

Then I tried to fit electronic timing to the RD and nearly went over the handlebars as I discoved I'd put it on 180 deg out and had 6 gears in reverse! c7u8 Well some time after it got pinched and half of me hoped it would bite them. :shooter:

So had been off of bikes for 10 years and then returned to the fold on a Bird. :yo:

Although I ran an AR50 35 Miles to work at16.Aged 19 took my test First few weeks of the NEW system of using an intercom.I just fooked off from the lights with the examiner shouting STOP in my ear!!
Obviously I blamed the crap earphone (Sorry I didn't hear you:blush: )and went on to pass.
Next week an RD350LC
followed by Kwak GT750 With 140K miles... That funny little rack on the back, by the way, was for carrying a 4ltr can of oil.....................

Next @ age 21 a Yam FJ1200 (From Hereford Motorcycles, 1st class service )and a round Spain trip with a wife and tent:yo:

Next another FJ12, followed by a new 1200 Bandit(s) in 2000 for ?4400 official too..
Now on the Red Bird I think ill stick with this one...for now

Passed me test in 1970 on a mates Honda 175 twin (CD?).

It wasn't exactly difficult at that time. The only time the examiner took an active part in the test was when he stepped out from between two cars and stuck his clipboard out for the e-stop.

The rest of the test was just a ride around town with him supposedly observing from somwhere.

Phew I thought that I was going to have to admit to being the oldest old git on here for a moment or two there but I see that there are a few others who passed in 1964 as well as me. That has cheered me up no end lol.

Passed my test on a 250cc Ariel Arrow borrowed off my mate, the fecking thing kept going down onto one cylinder and then coming back onto two halfway round a corner. In those days you only went round four right turns and then four left turns, did your emergency stop (trying to slice the examiners nuts off with the front number plate) answered a few questions on the highway code and the world was your small bi-valved mollusc.

I took it on my mates bike because I had a platform sidecar on my Bonneville at the time as it was the only way you could have a six fifty on L plates lol.

When the examiner asked me to put the bike on its stand so he could ask me the highway code questions I couldn't as the fecking thing didn't have one I had to lean a footpeg against the kerb.

By the way it only cost a paaarnd in them days!!!!!!

Still learning now lol

December 03. Had a moped at college in the 70s - hated it. It was just a cheap way of getting from A to B. Drove it on my car licence so I didn't need to do a test.

Didn't think about a bike again until Spring 03 when a young pal took me out as pillion for a day. Loved it. Started to read every mag I could find and the Bird just leapt off the page at me, first time I saw it.
'I want one of those one day'

Theory test was a nightmare.....practical test was 'interesting' but I passed first time. Got a Fazer which was in excellent condition, and started to make progress and have fun, but when I saw a Bird advertised in the local rag..... Just couldn't resist :lick: One of the best things I ever did :-: .

Passed first time August '77 in the rain on a CB200 having spent a year wassing around Derby on an AP50. Four times around the block, all left handers, no lights, pedestrian crossings, etc. whats a U-turn.?? :dunno: Locked the back wheel up on the emergency stop but the examiner apologised for making me have to do it in the wet so let me have another go - he didn't even move position.

Ran into the back of a cage taking a woman on her test leaving the test centre  . She started to pull away then stopped because she thought the car heading towards her 100yds away was to close to be safe :bang: :bang:

In 1970 when I was 15 my dad bought me a Suzuki 50 step through. I told him that I wouldn?t ride it and went out and bought myself BSA A10 with a sidecar. That A10 was the most unreliable bike I?ve owned. Often had to borrow the Suzuki 50 to go and get parts for the A10.
Passed my test in 1971 on a CD175 that I borrowed from work. Had a bike ever since

First bike was a BSA Bantam 175 two stroke but then came the real bike a Honda CB72 250 which I passed my test on in 1972 and as I recall the licence was a small red book !!

Was it really that long ago!!

My first bike was a BSA Bantam 125 D4....flipping thing broke down so many times.

I then got a Suzuki AP50 that was a lot faster and a lot better!!.. the added bonus was that it was about 1mph faster than a Yamaha FS1E :yo:

I took my test on a Yamaha DT125 in 1979 in Newbury. It was a lot easier than it is now.

Been biking ever since.......did a lot of scramble racing when I was about 18...really learnt how to ride a bike then

Memories....not what they used to be... :}
