Passed test in 1986 on my CB125 Superdream Twin, it cut out if I ran through anything remotely damp but I thought it was a great little bike. I even had a day glow sam brown belt! sssh ... don't tell anyone will you.

48 DAYS and counting, on third bike , Sold not crashed

1st bike Suzuki TL 1000s , bought in Oct last year , to spur me on to actually do the test. After a couple of sneaky test rides prior to passing , decided it was shite , but hey what did I know, did a deal on VTR 1000 , again did a couple of sneaky "practice laps" of the surrounding area ( 50 mile radius) liked it but still not completely thrilled, passed test 1st Feb , bought the 'Bird' 1st March , sold the storm , End of :)
Interesting choice of "first bikes" when youve just passed your test. . .

I knew if I got a 400 I would want a 600 in a week or so, and a 600 would soon leave me wondering what a 1000 was like so decided to save myself the hassle, not knowing V twins shake out your fillings and can easily be ridden without brakes as the engine almost stops you dead when you back off the throttle. Wished I had just got the bird first , mmm wonder what a 1400 would be like ?

Remember the SIDEWINDER?
Yes, I took my test in 1982 on a 250 Superdream with a sidewinder attached! It was when the rules changed, you could ride any bike on L plates as long as it had a sidecar, the sidewinder leant over with the bike, had a few near misses overtaking cars though. The test involved riding around the block in the pissing rain waiting for the examiner to leap out in front of me for the emergency stop, when it happened I locked up the rear, skidded and ran over his foot with the sidewinder - silly twat!! - not that silly 'cos I passed!

First thing I did after the test, was take it off ('COS EVERYONE LAUGHED AT ME!) - second was sell it and buy a XS750.

I've still got an XS 750 in various boxes spread equally round the country. One day it will be a trike just for the hell of it.

I got a ZZR 600 first as the 400s all felt really little. After 6 months and 9,000miles (and a test ride on a ZXR12) I knew the 6 wasn't enough and so got the Bird - and 3 years later I'm still happy with it!!!!!!! Hurrah!! :neenaw:

Passed just TWO days after my 17th B'Day 1979.............Phoned a few weeks before will some bull about needing my test to progress as an instructor!

It worked..............but I still couldn't afford a bigger bike?

How things change, now they are as cheap as chips and 10 times better compared to when I was 17.

Ah doesn't memory go with age, I just had to check that I hadn't already contributed to this thread

Test passed on a mates Royal Oilfield but I had a Bonnie parked outside the test centre ready and waiting for my return.
Test then was twice round the block with the examiner walking in the opposite direction. Over in under ten minutes on the road!

That was in 197something!

Only a youngster !!!!!

1972 for me on a YDS7 250 Yamaha. I'd saved up for it during a year in the Far East with the Royal Navy. Took the test at Dorchester in Dorset . Was stationed at Portland at the time. Funny isn't it, it's something you never forget :neenaw:
