OMG OMG

I think I have problem with my car too.

20 klm return journey, parked the car at home, turned ignition off and the fan was still going. I thought wth that has never happened before. The fan went off and I decided to have a look under the bonnet. It felt hot, I let it cool down and I had a look in the water expansion tank.
OMG gungy grey thick liquid....horrible....oil? No idea but if it is, me thinks, big trouble?
Took the car out today and overheated again. Still gunge around, taking it to a garage 2moro morning to see what they say.

The car has been brill 116k mikes and never asked for anything before....

Should I start another thread? Any ideas? :bang:

Problems never ending

Putting the picture straight.

Coolant has never been changed or topped up in 116000 miles in a dusty climate.
Temperature gauge stayed normal throughout.
Fan came on after the car stopped when hot water rose from the bottom of the block and stopped after a few minutes.
Car had just been travelling in first gear for half a mile because of potholed road.
No foam on dipstick.
No foam on underside of oil filler cap.
Feck all wrong except coolant has been in there for years and needs flushing out and replaced.

Guess who is a Greek drama queen. 8rfl@

All the other points very correct but for the first 72000 miles the car was serviced by main dealers in the UK. When we came here the car had done 78000.

You didn't tell me that, Peros.

Are you sure it was the cooling fan and not the aircon system purging itself? This sounds like the engine fan and will kick in even when the ignition is off, key removed and car is locked. My V70 used to do it and the first time I noticed it it freaked me out.

This forum is excellent for technical advice but has very little in the way of humour and banter is almost frowned upon... just what you'd expect from a bunch of beige cord trouser and velour jacket wearers really:-0)

Yes mate I am sure, I took the car to a local garage and the mechanic there is excellent. He diagnosed it as the head gasket gone, he explained to me why, he then told me that he could not do the job himself because he does not have the volvo special tools and that it would too expensive for him to purchase them when there is only one D5 in the area.

The car will be loaded on a transporter early in the morning (I will follow in my BMW) to Kalamata, nearea\st city to the main Volvo dealership. They are excellent too, they did my cam belt 2 years ago for a total cost of 325 euros, and an excellent job too.

So, they will tell me tomorrow, what, when and how much.......gr0n:
In the meantime, the BMW is out now, checked a few things (has not been on the road or started up in 2 years)
because I need to do 140klms round trip to the deelership so we can sort this Volvo out

Any thoughts?
