Starting Problem

Yes Bill

Petros' starting problem traced to the starter button. WD40 helped a bit but we are going to get some contact cleaner and see if that clears the problem or whether a new assembly is needed. @tu*

I am going to look in Ebay for it and wait for 4 or so days to come rather than doing 80 miles round trip for a can in Kalamata. For certain though, next time I am in Kalamata I will buy a couple of tins for my stock....I dont think they loose their qualities if they are kept for a year or two.

In the mean time I will also search for an assy.

RegardsR#?

Good stuff. RHS gubbins with start button etc for handlebar should be about ?20-?25 on Evil bay. That's where I got mine when my starter button and/or kill -switch failed. ( couldn't suggest it as my diagnosis was based on just blind guesswork ,- modesty prevents me adding, "a touch of common sense" too ;-0)))

Great stuff pertrosc. @tu* Nice one Bill, took ya fekkin time i know but nice one..

Daft Q?

Bill, since our talk on skype, I tried a couple of things and what I can't understand is this: :bang:

1. Turn ignition on
2. Start engine by other means (not start button)
3. Stop engine
4. Turn ignition on
5. Use the start button and presto, engine starts as norm with no hesitation

Why does this happen?

If you try to start the engine again, hold your breath, IT STARTS AGAIN

If you leave the engine off for ten minutes, it does not start from the button again :dunno:

Do you have a spare car battery you could use to support the bike battery with jump leads ( car battery NOT attached to car )

That would eliminate or condem the bike battery as the culprit.

Thanks Deano.

We know the battery is good. We have a problem with an intermittent starter button. Proved by bypassing.

Yes, about 3 years ago. Tried to carefully dismantle the switch to clean/look at the contacts which was about as clever as asking a brickie to undertake a touch of microsurgery...therefore I broke the fekka and for good measure, smashed the rest in anger. Then I visited e-bay. @tu*
