Finalised...
Pleaded not guilty..
Found guilty..

Six Months Con Discharge and ?2500 costs.

Full story here...

I understand he was taken direct to Police HQ from Court, interviewed for gross misconduct in public office, and file being prepared by IPCC.

Does he deserve having 'two bites at the cherry' being thrown at him?

( No I am NOT sticking up for him, just wondered if anyone in any other type of employment would be (possibly) prosecuted twice for the same incident)
:dunno:

When a certain ex Doctor committed suicide, my colleague who found him was praised by the coroner for doing his job properly.
The Prison service spent three years hounding him to find out if he was in any way at fault.

Several years ago some Officers from Winson Green were restraining a prisoner,[Barry Prosser] during the struggle the prisoner fell on the floor & an officer landed on top of him Prosser later died, the Officers went to court & were cleared, some people weren't happy at this so there was a retrial [totally unique after a not guilty verdict] again they were found not guilty, later some of the officers were again sent for trial & again were found not guilty. The Prison service sent them all to different prisons as a punishment for being not guilty.

If I were to fiddle my expenese I would expect to be prosecuted and then lose my job.

I suppose the difference is that the officer made an error of judgement and (hopefully) did not expect what happened to, er, happen.

If I fiddled my expenses it would just be theft.

Amazingly, they are now undecided as to whether he is going to be allowed to keep the dog that he is currently "looking after" !!!!!

Yes.. Or perhaps he could be locked in an over without water and without fresh air at 30 to 40 C for 7 hours ?
If he survives then lets forget it and let him walk without further retribution
Sound fair ?

He broke the law and cocked-up at work. Two incidents that happened at the same time. If I drove to work pissed I'd expect to be done for driving drunk and for being drunk on the job.

(must point out I do neither as I work for myself from home)

He's back at work now, albeit not as a dog handler. I presume that this means his misconduct enquiry found him innocent of wrongdoing? I also presume his depression & OCD are fully cured as he'll be dealing with the public?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/8689279.stm

Reading between the lines, he was apparently a victim in the whole affair; his mental health had suffered & his police force hadn't given him adequate support, etc. Hopefully he'll be in a position to apply for a suitable compensation payout for all that he's suffered.

If someone knows of a link to a suitable charity appeal/collection for him then could they please post it up for donations?

Simple good manners prevent me from posting what I think of this post RH but I am certain that you're bright enough to guess.

Morph-
He apparently was not at fault; the system let him down and he didn't get the help he needed. Why is everyone always a victim in these situations and nobody ever held accountable or punished?

Does he still have mental health issues? If he's fit to be working then he's either had an amazingly fast recovery or his problems were exaggerated at his trial. I think this is a fair question.

My post several months ago said that there would be 'procedural errors' and lessons would be learned. I would appear to have been proven correct.

Question to anyone able to answer: Notts police are now fitting ventilation to their dog vans-
1) Was it his own car the dogs were in as per a previous post? If so, will private (unventilated) cars be used in the future?
2) Why was ventilation not a standard fitment previously? I'm pleased they are making improvemnts, btw.

RH, your questions at the end are valid but I am not in a position to answer them.

He has been punished and he has returned to work in a different role, if he has just returned I doubt very much that he is, as yet, in a public facing role.

He was punished in court, you may not agree with the punishment handed down but that's why we have judges. The judge was pursuaded of his illness which the force acknowedged and accepeted some of the responsibility. If it were not the case it would have been easier for them to use him as a scapegoat so I am inclined to believe him.

He has been disciplined internally and moved as well.

Moreover I imagine that there is no-one that feels as bad about this as he does.

I don't object to your question, what I object to is the quite horrible gloating tone that came out in your post, as it often does.

I think many people on here are getting fed up of you on this particular anti-police soap box which is why you get markedly less responses than you used to.
