I'd suggest that he's risking such a procedure at the moment, unless the OP's suggestion of a cover-up takes place.

After all is said and done here the person responsible for this act of cruelty (whether pre meditated or not) must carry the can as would any other citizen be they emplyed by the police or otherwise.
I feel people are getting too hooked up with the fact that this was a police officer......it is of no consequence and he should be judged no differently than you or I would.

Exactly the point I was trying to make, however as with the Prison service certain things in the police force are covered up or brushed under the carpet but it depends on whether the individual involved is a member of a certain lodge, I am speaking from knowledge not supposition

I do know some very good dog handlers both in the Prison service and in the police, but I also know of some that shouldn't even be wearing a uniform.

Have to agree with you on this point. Just because someone wears a uniform or does a certain job, doesn't always make them good at it. I speak from experience of knowing some dog handlers in the Army, some were very good and did it for the love of animals, but some weren't worth a :wank:.

As I understand it Police dogs have their own number just like an officer and can receive bravery awards etc and are therefore valued higher than other resources, say a patrol car. Just like officers they are employed to stand in harms way to protect the public when needed.

What protocols, procedures, meetings or other administrative duties render these dogs lives forfeit.

An accident I can understand, but to say that he couldn't kennel them or refuse some other duty because of his duty of care for these dogs is without logic.

People who know people in the topic of discussion sometimes have some knowledge on the subject, we have dog handlers where I work, I know most of them I am friends with some, some are really good & dedicated, some are just dog walkers & some are just too bad for description.
