Why the fook are they so cheap???????????????????????
Come on,, a superb dry/wet tyre that lasts over 7k on a bike as powerfull and torquey as a BIRD for &140 per pair..........................get real.

BIF: So, all Avon users can blame Rhino the next time they have an off then? :} Anyway, Derek's criteria and expectations maybe significantly different to anyone elses, even yours????

I'm not getting involved with individuals riding abilities but isn't that a valid point? If they are so good, then;
A. why doesn't everyone use them?
B. why does everyone who's opinnion I value consider Avon to be poor tyres or is it simply a perception based on previous Avon experiences? (this exludes folk who are not in the industry BTW)
C. unless Avon are simply trying to get a foot hold in the market before slowly increasing their prices, if Avon have such confidence in their products, then why sell at such low prices? Perhaps a marketing person can explain?
:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
I like Rhino's relentless attitude

neither did i,

i was on a bike instead :neenaw:

however it is interesting that some peeps love em and some hate em but i reckon a lot has to do with riding style (like most seem to agree in here)

had a ZZR1100D1 fitted with BT57 front and back and thougt they were the biggest pile of shite out wet or dry :shooter: my m8 had a go on the bike one day and thought they were brilliant :dunno:

started using pirelli dragon GTS on rear and dragon EVO (not corsa) on front and got all my confidence back within about 20 miles. m8 tried them as well and declared them to be a load of shite

as it seems 2 riders on the same bike can have completely different opinions on tyres i guess im just gonna have to try avons for myself and not pay any attention to what anyone says in here

i would stick with the 020 but to be honest i think they(or another tyre brand) could be better

do Cheng Shin to tyres in BB size?? c7u8 :loo:

Personal Opinion Time~~~~~~

Getting a bit lively this one eh? LOL

Just for a minute lets explore a few personal opinion / facts

I would class myself as an averagely competant rider - nothing more - better, quicker and safer now that I've done a couple of Buzz's track days [wet and dry]

I've also been on various rideouts with riders of varying capabilities

I ride regularly with two very competant riders [Chunk Munkey VTR and Shaun R1]

So I guess I am reasonably qualified to proffer a "balanced view" - I don't sell tyres - I've got bugger all to do motorcycle parts sales

Fact is there are three people on this forum who I have ridden with and who's riding skills I admire and aspire to [Chunk Monkey and Shaun are out of this equation as they are regulars]

Those people are :-

1200Pete - Avon shod and very happy [wet or dry]

JAWS - Avon shod and very happy [wet or dry]

Buzz - Avon shod and very happy dry - uncommitted wet

I've just spoken at length with 1200Pete on this matter - without doubt he knows more about bike tyres than the rest of us put together

Regardless of the fact that he sells these tyres - he has a vested interest in all parts Blackbird - he wouldn't sell/promote/market these tyres if he didn't believe in them as it could jeopardise his entire business - Pete just aint that sort of bloke and ANYONE who has had dealings with him knows his integrity, honesty and good nature [to slag him off because he recommends and sells Avon tryes is IMHO well out of order]

Ok some people have experienced personal problems in the wet - accept that - riders skills vary though

BUT

when you look at the people who DO recommend them - that'll do for me

Money where mouth is time?

Yep!! To prove my point I'm going to put my money where my gob is and fit Avons over the winter and spring - ride them as I would the 020's currently fitted - then report back to you lot !

Is that fair?

Rhino, before you start your relentless one man campaigne, it is clearly obviouse that nothing I say is true or listened to, even though I sell all makes of tyres and incidently would earn a lot more by recomending other makes.

You are trying to discredit my reputation and that of Avon tyres. I have arranged for you to speak with Avon and get this sorted out, they are the only tyre manufacturer in the UK and the only manufacturer that you can do this with (unless you speek Japanes) so instead of venting your frustration out on here talk to them, you will get a response from any one you want to hear from Including Pete Mcnally who actually designed the tyre. Your coments and questions will be treated with the upmost concern, they are a company that take issues like this very seriously.

If you talk to Clive Jones Initially, his e mail is clive@intamoto.com, he has worked with the bike tyre side for the last 12 years, just drop him an e mail and hopfully you can get to the bottom of your tyre problems.

Same obviously goes to you too Blu, if there is an issue here let's get it sorted so we can get back to the usual piss taking and banter.

Not sure what you are getting at here Joe, are you just blowing hot air again??? Or is it track day withdrawel symptoms

It doesn't matter what our criteria are or expectations, this thread is not about that, its about Rhino saying he has a problem with HIS tyres, so he should act on that and do something to rectify the situation, its not about what you or I expect from their tyres its what RHINO and the other folk who have problems expect. I am certainly not calling him a liar, far from it, but he must do something about it.

Pete 8.5mm spacer???

does the nut use all it thread or is the bolt 3/4 of the nut??

have you dropped the forks as well???

It depends on the frame Wolfie, some have different size spars and will take up to 12mm but most should take an 8mm spacer if you want to run one, I have a 13mm spacer in the show bike but I had to weld a longer bolt in for that.

I would not drop the forks on a Bird as this will lose precious ground clearance, plus they tend to drop in a bit to fast, causing over correcting on slow tight corners.

Just as a mater of interest I run the SP1 forks at the same height as the standard Bird forks.

Is a lunp
cheers pete,

so by having a 5mm spacer and dropping my forks by 6 mm, i have fecked it all up LOL LOL

that explains it. I now know why i am shit. cause somebody let me change things on my bike. Please dont let me touch the thing again.

Gonna put forks back to normal and see how i go.

PS did have a 14mm spacer once but the nut was only on by 2 threads, did a few hundred miles like that until i kept hearing a clonking noise, the nut had come off and the shock was hitting the frame, rode it like that for about 200 miles as well.

Is a lunp
was thinking more along the turning in speed and having to readjust whilst in the corner.

doesn't dropping the forks alter the rake or something??????

Pete, thanks for the details  , i'm not after anything from it, i just want to vent my opinions which were swept under the carpet in June/July when i first commented. I understand fully where you and many others are coming from but I as with YOU need to do some digging and find the truth at the end of it all. :-:

The later actually, but I'll be blowing hot air alright at the end of November, when Cartagena gets a taste of my Rennsports RS2's & Michelin slicks (both shit in the wet BTW Rhino :} ) but like cheating in the dry :yo: :}

******

 Clive from AVON has been on the phone and explained a few points to me about his tyres and i have explained a few things to him!
The top and bottom of it all is AVON ST range is probably better all round than the 020 but NOT as good as the 010/011 combo i generally use.
The ST range is the equivelent 'sports/touring tyre as the 020 but with a different construction. So the reason i have so many moments with them is coz i still ride as though i have my 010's on and the Avons don't like it...

In all fairness to AVON & 1200Pete i believe that maybe the AVON ST is better than the conventional Bridgestone version (020).

There is an updated AV49/50 being brought out before next season and i have agreed to aquire a set and give them a whirl.
This is by no means a back pedal from what i stated previosly as i do think the ST is terrible in the rain but i will give the NEW model a crack in spring.
Thanks PETE
