Sugar can be bad for you - causes horrid things to happen to your brain and chemical levels
Fat can be bad for you too - blocks up important bits of you
As can BBQ's, toothpaste, fresh apples off the tree, traffic fumes, nail varnish
remover, peroxide, ammonia based glass cleaner, oven cleaner, Chernobyle, Sellafield, aviation fuel, red food colouring, and many other day to day products all linked ( not proven ) to cause cancer. Slightly off the theme ish I know, but there was a point to it when I started to type, honest.

and to be honest - riding a motorcyle can be bad for you (especially if you believe what my mother says)
Yes yes thats all well and fine but thats all a personal choice to have the sugar and eat fat but doing these things doesnt affect other peoples personal space/health like smoking in public places does.

As a student there arent many flexible job options open to you.....i dont work in a pub any more....

The thing is that coming up with other things that are bad for you as an excuse for the badness of smoking is like saying well that person is having the shit kicked out of him but dont worry theres somone round the corner who's being beaten up more so it doesnt matter about the other guy. Two wrongs dont make a right!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Give it a feckin rest will ya.

Me drinkin is bad for other people, Cos when iv had copious quantities of marstons pedigree and 3ck04 over someone and they moan about it. Claret will then appear from there nose cavity.

So, not only do you want me to stop smokin, but also drinkin and scrappin as well.

The youth of today. Cluless.

Oh and another flaw in your statement, you mentioned student and work in the same sentance. How does that work then :dunno:

two wrongs don't make a right

however, you and I (and everyone else) affect peoples health every time we fire up a motorbike or car.

At least with smoking people can chose to go somewhere that is non smoking. How do you keep away from the fumes from cars, lorries, buses and bikes?

Even in the countryside (the stix where I am) there are enough cars etc to smell them - so if i can smell the fumes, surely they are affecting my health.

How do you chose to avoid that and still live a fully functioning life?

At least smoking is something you can walk away from if you don't like it?

hmmmmmmm like i said earlier just cuz there are worse things out there doesnt mean that less bad things should be ignored you've got to start somewhere.

As for always being able to walk away from cigarette smoke, thats a really naive idea, its not always possible. for example i am currently sitting in my room in my flat and the lady next door is smoking with her window. my window is closed however my room still stinks of fags......i'd like to open my window cuz its really hot but cant cuz it'll smell even more. now thats not fair!!!

So if cost comes into every form of life style, what about the money spent when things go wrong for, Seamen, pot holers, mountaineers, motorists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, extreme sportsters, car surfers, and many many more.
The way this leftie nanny tree hugging pc brigade twatty goverment are going they wont be happy till we all live in our own fecking bubble.
I am an ex-smoker and dont give a toss who smoke and who dont, I have legs and can work out of anyplace I dont like. The smoking in public places should have been left to the buisness propriortor's discretion as to have smoking on thier premissis or not!!!! Not some twat with illusions of grande'

The cost of care and treatment in the UK to patients suffering from smoking relating illnesses far outweigh the treatment received by those participating in dangerous activities. As for your other point, I couldn't agree with you more and based on well documented stats, the majority of business and establishment would ban smoking which is common sense given that it is only a small minority that smoke in the UK anyway.
