With things on the move now I wonder if Putin really believes he has the upper hand and will try and press on to the Dnieper river.
I suspect that would be his ideal finish point as it also protects the Crimea northern border. I think he may see this as unfinished business.

For a guy who gets antsy over the idea of having NATO countries on his border he seems determined to head west until he meets one.

He's got Latvia further north and also Lithuania through his stooges in Belarus, plus Norway up at the top of Scandinavia..... so it's not as if it's a bit of a shocker that there are NATO countries over the garden hedge.
If he stops at the Dnieper River, as DnD said, then he doesn't meet a NATO country's border....but if he rolls all the way through the Ukraine then he'll come to a screeching halt when he hits 4 NATO members.

At the end of the talk there is a section for questions. Little Sasha puts her hand up and says, "I have two questions. Why did the Russians take Crimea and why are we sending troops to the Ukraine?" Putin says, "Good questions".
But just as he is about to answer the bell goes and the kids go to lunch.
When they come back, they sit down and there is room for some more questions.

I'm amazed at the number of younger people who think that Putin is "a good guy who's just doing the best for his people". When I mention The Cold War, communism and the Soviet threat to the West I get told that it's all "old history and no longer relevant now." Russia is a reformed character.....like one of Dereks former inmates, now going straight.
