MAN on the PAN
Clive.

I have had this issue with the bike for soooooooooo long and I have never been able to sort it, bearing in mind I have a good mechanical background. So I am taking your advice because apart from changing the KS which is very unlikely to be at fault, I have decided to go straight for the ECM. Taff is very kindly sending me one to try/use for a couple of days before buying (what a bloke). Clearly if it doesnt sort it, my search continues.c7u8

Only seems fifteen minutes since you last said that :-0)

It started to smell of fuel then there seems to be a reduction in performance as if it's changed to a safety mode map and the throttle is very jerky. Going back to the stop on full throttle makes the acceleration very delayed and slow:(

Pointer is... if its a engine management component, once its failed its unlikely to repair itself so the fault would be unlikely to go away for even a short period (heat factor can affect this I admit). With an ECM error that theory is out the window.. Moneys on ECM being kaput.

Also resetting the ECM fault code on a component fault would not alter engine management, as the fault would still be there.

Hi Guys.

Well Taff was true to his word and the ECM arrived today. I couldnt open the package quick enough, I disconnected the negative side of the battery and changed over the ECM within 5 minutes. I then changed over the chips in my keys following advice given by Silverfox (thanks mate). I then started the bike.

Straight away, the bike ran and after warming up for a few minutes, I held the throttle at 3000 RPM no FI light! so far so good.

I noticed after warm up that there was a major reduction of fuel fumes coming from the exhaust, thats better@tu*

The bike also ran alot smoother with the new ECM compared to the original. Taff sent me an 01 model rather than the original 02 part which I understand had major issues.

I am planning on putting the bike and the ECM through its paces thoughout this week to see if the FI light comes on and to see if the bike switches to safety mode however. First impressions seem to tell me that the ECM change has sorted the long standing KS/safety mode issue. Well done Clive and thank you so much Taff.

If its OK Taff, I will try out the ECM over this week and contact you next weekend with the payment.

Good one, 99% sure your problems are sorted. (Even bleach only kills 99% of all know germs :-0)).

If it sounded better on start up, it'll now be fine... @tu*@tu*@tu*@tu*, You'll also notice how much quicker it is...

Well I rode into work this morning at 06.00hrs. The throttle is smooth and not snatchy, the quickness of the bike compared to last week's ride is like comparing chalk with cheese@tu*.

The ride to work is a 25 miler and upon checking the exhausts upon arrival I found no soot whatsoever at the exit;-0)).

I am planning a 100 mile trip out tomorrow with a buddy, he will be following (a position where all other bikes should be in compared to a blackbird) and he will report any fuel smells which my bird suffered from before.

Finger crossed.

When the ECM goes into the fail-safe setting it will run rich, as a precautionary measure.. Rich is safer than lean.

Don't forget to tell your mate where you're going, so he can find you.. :-0)

99.999R% you're ECM fault is solved. @tu*

Guys. I put the bike through it's pace's today and rode to Foxes. 80 mile round trip, interesting speeds to say the least.

I can honestly say the "bird" has never performed so well since owning it (4 years). Silky smooth, eyes bleedingly fast and no fuel smells. Get in!!

I think the issue is sorted finally however. I will keep you posted this week.
