Thanks Taff will check it out now. You guys are so helpful, you need a law question answered or a Police matter aired just shout!

Why did Cheshire stitch me and about probably 10.000 other people up with SP50s one Sunday afternoon in 2003?

Just on a side note and please slap me down if you think I'm talking crap but.... Here goes.

What if a power commander was fitted to a 2000 bird with the possible ECM issue? Would the PC use it's map to over write the Faulty ECM map or would this cause a whole heap of shite?

Just a thought guys to throw into the mix.

The other thing I have been pondering is how much is an ECM from a stealer Dealer? Would your insurance key cover kick in if you have it coz I know they cover new ECMs when the keys are lost or damaged? Again just a thought guys.

By the Andybird.

That harsh mate in my opinion. I do speed enforcement from my bike however it's only ever in a 30 limit after there had been a speed related collisionor fatal. Thankfully my force goes down the line of education rather than prosecution. Sadly other forces don't:(

Trust me, I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets a ticket for speeding.

Now there's a coincidence. i have Sentinel cover on my credit card, and was updating the stuff registered on it last week. I didn't even realise that 'lost keys' were covered, including all motor vehicles owned by anyone at my address, up to ?1000 per claim, this to include replacement keys, locks and any replacement electronic equipment required to make the vehicle usable.

Makes you think.....

Thanks for the offer Clive.

I think if it comes on again it has to be the ECM. I don't have one to swop over to test. Where is the best place (cheapest and reliable) to get one with the key chips. eBay is all well and good for some items but not for an ECM I feel.

I will keep you guys posted on my progress but I would like to know where to get an ECM in case.

Let us know if you need to swop one over. Providing it is a simple job mine should fit, '99 XXX, and as you know i am just down the road Steptoe me old mucker!!!!

Oh Stevie PJ.

You could be a life saver! If the fault comes back it will take me no longer than 5 minutes to safely change the ECM over and shield the key. Is that OK mate. Will email tomorrow if thats OK mate. Then I will know I it's the ECM at fault! Coffee and doughnut on me, promise.

my KS fault would mysteriously disappear now and then and it was difficult because it alway seemed to do it when I had been messing with something but it always came back and was there 98% of the time, after investigating it as far as I could without replacing the ECU Mr Silverfox did the swap out on his bb proving beyond any doubt that is was at fault. Since then others have had the same outcome.

Nope already check that theory as a means not having the expense of changing ECM. ECM still controls engine management, However if you have a PC fitted remove it to eliminate it possibly affecting ECM's monitoring. bl4hbl4hbl4hbl4h

Yep. Clive I took your advice and Taff is sending me a E01 ECM in the post for me to try, what a guy! He will receive my personal "get out of jail free" card if he ventures into The Thames Valley area... Actually so will you mate, you have answered the question that my Bird has been asking. LOL

? :dunno:, Nope, checked all our correspondence and not once have you mentioned your bird or asked a question relating to a female.

On another note, did you try another ECM, or have a definite result, albeit a bad one. brok3

'Get out of Jail free card' I nicked the Monopoly one, its in my wallet with my driving licence. :-0)

Clive.

I have had this issue with the bike for soooooooooo long and I have never been able to sort it, bearing in mind I have a good mechanical background. So I am taking your advice because apart from changing the KS which is very unlikely to be at fault, I have decided to go straight for the ECM. Taff is very kindly sending me one to try/use for a couple of days before buying (what a bloke). Clearly if it doesnt sort it, my search continues.
