I am disappointed to have to mention that once more my trap was left untouched despite nice fresh peanuts. I don’t want to use my Marmite peanut butter in case they don’t appreciate it, so I’ll get a jar of normal peanut butter with the weekly shopping.

Do they prefer smooth or crunchy? :)

Anything jam/butter/cheese/cake/biscuit will do. Presumably a bit of electric cable as well as they seem to like that.

As before I found it better to smear something on the trap rather than use a lump of something that they can nick.

Coat an extension lead in chocolate spread then lay it where the mice run, then switch it on, make sure it’s not laid on anything flammable.

I don't believe it!

After reading and laughing at all this - we have at least one mouse in the house :(

Missus is going loopy and jumping every few minutes ...

Off to get some mice traps (in the morning), if I actually get any sleep tonight !!!

Bought a bunch (8) mouse traps.

Set a couple in the garage, I think that's where they're getting in from.

I'll wait until later for the rest as the cat from next door was waiting on the doorstep when we got back.

Letting the cat have a roam around the house, if a mouse moves he'll have it:)

The cat is using them as bait so it can see if your house is a viable alternative for it to live

Mrs P has blocked every little gap she can find with expanding foam. She‘so taken the vents off and put a meece-proof wire mesh behind each one and she’s replaced two vents. We’ve not had a problem since. Yet.

Mice love expanding foam.

Pest control advice is steel wool and quick setting concrete, apparently it's the only stuff they can't chew through

He already thinks it's his second home. They've got two young kids and (very well trained) German Shepherd so the cat comes to see us when wants a snooze and a fuss.
Always goes back home at the same times for grub :)

OK score one for the trap.

The little bastid that kept us awake last night is no more :) :sniper:

When I say kept "us" awake - not exactly, I'd have happily slept soundly (have done though much worse :risas3:) but every time there was any sort of sound the missus jumped up and tried to radar vector in on it, predict route and even try to work out what is was doing :cheer:.

Just in case, for tonight I've got a hurling stick by the bed.
What I use it for depends on if I actually get some sleep tonight - off darn sarf tomorrow to visit parents as its mum's 91st birthday.
Don't want to do that trip after oh the 1:40 minutes sleep I got last night.

I don't have a bad ankle though and I shan't mention I only got 1:40 minutes sleep last night :sleep3:

We tried steel wool and the little shits chewed through it.

The expanding foam is a temporary measure to see if we’ve found every access point. Mrs P will mix up some cement and render and fill the gaps proper when the rain warms up a bit.

Crushed glass in the render is quite effective I believe. Time to smash a few wine bottles in the mix.

Another one last night in another trap.

I'd got 8 traps yesterday, so that's two meeces so far.

I'm hoping against the odds we may have spotted them before they got too established.

Think I've worked out how they got in.

The garage is on the side of the house with a pitched roof and it's own loft.
The wiring from the distribution box plus the gas pipe come into the house up there and the builder had just knocked a ragged hole bigger than needed.

We don't have vents anywhere and I've checked around doors etc. Looks like time for the steel wool mixed with concrete.
