KHi all
Bit of an update .... Second blood test was lower at 3.7 But not quite low enough!

So ..... Urine test today and referral to specialist
(Doc advised I will be be seen within 2 weeks ! As that's the maximum allowed timescale !)
He was quite reassuring and said the figure is quite low so nothing too much to worry about .. But.... It's part of the procedure that will be followed if ANY result is above the normal !
He added I would be in good hands with the specialist !!
I asked if they were big hands ... He laughed and said that DRE is unfortunately one part of the process that everyone has to go through !!

So ....
My arse is greased up ready !
At 3.7 I'm sure all will be fine. @tu* We should have an icon with a finger, not a thumb! :-0)

While we're on the subject of mens health; get your blood pressure checked. I've found my Bp to be 210/110. Got checked out several times with 24 hr monitoring. I'm now on anti-hypertensive meds which are working a treat - already cut out salt and a lot of shit from my food ages ago.

Subsequent tests have found damaged heart muscle, hopefully not permanent as it's been caught at an early stage.

I never had any symptoms of any description, just found the high Bp by chance when some of us at work were playing with a Bp machine.

Go and get checked, it's easy. No needles, no fingers up bums!

That's the reason I had a blood test in the first place .... My yearly BP assessment as I too have medicated hypertension
About 8 or so years ago I went for a regular BP check and the nurse said hang on a minute my machine is playing up
Second machine and a confused nurse... She got a doc who did two tests ... Similar result and asked if I was feeling ok or any symptoms etc ... I WAS feeling absolutely fine !
He said he wanted to send me to hospital as it was incredibly high !! I declined his offer as I was absolutely fine !!
A week or so later after various tests ...I was on hypertension meds and it's been steady since ... Every year I have a blood test and BP tested 6 monthly !

I play badminton weekly and football regally ... Did the London marathon a few years ago

We all think it will be someone else who gets sick ...... Or we are all fit healthy and wouldn't get anything serious ??
Well ... As the lottery company says ....

It COULD be you !!

psa test is inaccurate if blood is taken within 48 hours of ejaculation.
I had a raised psa had to go back for another, then the "finger" all was normal but the NZ system still insisted I went for verification. So down to Christchurch hospital drink 4 litres of water when busting, pee into a flow meter and then straight off for a ultrasound to see if the bladder is empty. All OK but the Hospital still requested another psa test before signing me off!@tu*

I was advised of that by the doc .... I asked if he had told my wife that .... ?? He looked puzzled ... As I replied she said something similar but got hours confused with weeks !!!! :xm

Glad to see the good news.

Just one comment about Blood pressure readings.
I'm in the process of having regular BP tests ( and daily self tests). Few weeks ago I was having it taken, and the nurse commented it was dangerously high. I was quite surprised as when self checking with a good machine, it was raised, but not too bad.
Off she trots for another machine.... Same again!!
I commented that the 'cuff' was uncomfortable tight (To the point of causing a bruise), and she then toddles off for a larger cuff.

Doctor comes in and apologises, he has just read a paper that shows that if your cuff is not free when first tested, it will give a very raised reading!
If you have high readings, and the cuff is tight to the point of hurting, ask for a larger cuff!!

High readings.

I take mine at home on a regular basis and it is usually around 120/70 with lisnopril. When the doc or nurse takes it the readings are always high the first time so they leave me 5 minutes and it is always OK the second time. White coat syndrome they call it! :-0)

I've just had my annual assessment and there was blood in my urine - there was n sign but the practice nurse did a test and the results suggested blood. I have to see the GP next Tuesday - I hope he washes his hands first! This is on top of my broken arm and knackered wrist!

Morning all
Just another episode in the issues that I have saga

Went to see a specialist yesterday and yet another finger examination ...
And various questions from the specialist .....
He explained in great detail what. where and how the prostrate works ...
Also in more graphic detail about biopsies !!! Which could take place before Xmas !
"It's like a banana up your rear who fires an airgun into your prostrate and takes 12 core samples ... You will get an infection and bleed from
Front and rear for a while ......

Or you can have a MRI around Xmas time and another set of blood tests and finger examinationman8um

wonder what I chose !! :dunno:

I can still get the biopsy if I feel the need !!

As scary as it may be ..... I'm in safe hands ! (And unfortunately quite large hands) the specialist did say he had felt more prostrates than he had hot dinners (lucky him !!! And WHY choose that as a job ??? ) and he wasn't too concerned at the moment with the feeling of mine!
He did find a tiny bump tho (smaller than a grain of rice) which is a little unusual but it's so small .... But he will monitor this over time as he was certain it wasn't infected !

So .... If my experience can reassure some men to get tested ....
Or save a life ??

Had MRI done the other day ....

Like laying down 1/2 naked in a massive metal polo mint ..
I was warned about the noise previously ... But even with ear plugs PLUS headphones to listen to piped 80's music (I recognised 1 song !!!)
Lots of Beeping buzzing and whirring .... It was Really really noisy !!!
Tho after 40 minutes ... All done and dusted !
Just waiting for the doc to call me with results ....

Two more blood tests at 3 monthly intervals ... To look forward to next ... Ohh yes I forgot .. Another few finger examinations !!

I was going to say fingers crossed ... But I think that may be more uncomfortable !!!

indeed, BP is almost always higher at surgery or hospital. However, I have noticed that they often call you in and do BP immediately, when you should be at rest for five minutes beforehand.

I've found the same at home, Lisa.

I now make sure I have been sitting quietly for 10 minutes before I check the pressure. :-0)

found a free iphone app iHealth and BP test gadget which fits onto an Ipad or Iphone ?5 approx on Evil bay .. it seems quite accurate and gives at home BP tests history and times etc etc
For my peace of mind its worth it

How do you know it's quite accurat? Mine at home always (virtually) showed lower than at the surgery. Our surgery has a small room with self test ( no white coats) so I took mine in a few times and did a comparison. Results were virtually identical so I believe mine is accurate and the difference when the doctor/nurse checks is white coat syndrome. My surgery asks peeps who are due a test to go and sit quietly for 5 minutes and then self test. The results are then taken into the doctor for the appointment.
