I am not talking about moaning women!

After a recent blood test my doc advised me I needed another blood test as i had 'slightly raised PSA'.
I didnt get an actual figure off him..... But obviously depending on the result of the next blood test..... will depend on the course of action ...
I won't go into too much detail but well lubed gloved finger will certainly be after the result of the next blood text !!! man8um

And as its Movember I thought I would mention this to others on here .... get yourself tested !!!

Im obviously hoping its not too serious ... and I wont know results for at least a week or so ...
But anyone on here have / had raised PSA ?
PS Ive been reading up and some of the more serious non fatal cases.... are quite scary !

best of luck. Not too concerned about the finger these days as my new GP has got slender fingers. Word of advice - look behind you to see what he is actually putting up your arse

never had PSA tested as too young an no family history. Mate has it in the family and is tested regular and he is younger than me. his seems naturally higher than norm but isn't rising - hence the need to find a baseline.

Think you are right (Bloody hope so!)... think its the base line they will be looking for ....and monitor over time ... No history in the family, no symptoms,(apart from slight raised count)....

I did hear two jokes which 'eased' me slightly !

Patient says to doctor while getting the internal examination ... 'Thats a bit uncomfortable .. can you please take off your ring?'
Doc replies .. 'Im not wearing a ring ... It could be my watch ??'

And

Doc says to a 1/2 naked laying down and prone patient... 'Dont worry its quite normal to get an erection when this examination is done'
Patient looks puzzled 'Im sorry?? I dont have an erection!'
The Doc replies... 'You may not have an erection ...BUT I DO !!'

I had the fickle finger of fate recently, let's just say, certain sexual practises are much overrated :puke:

Having said that, no reported problems, so symptoms assigned to something else. Not looking forward to needing the exam again anytime soon.man8um

The odd thing is, when I first reported the symptoms, the doc said SHE would do the exam , but her fingers weren't long enough.

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that, the doc that did the exam had long, very thick fingers, or so they seemed fl4g71 fl4g71.

father and both his brothers died of prosttate cancer.

We, his sons, were going every year for a blood test and sadly my brother Brian was told one year all fine and the next year too late to do anything. He has since died and we remaining sons now go every six months. Just as important as the blood test is watching for any change in bladder habits. Every male child born has some prostate cancer in his system and most never have it increase enough to cause a problem. Most prostate glands swell with age hence the old man's trip to the loo in the night but swelling is not necessarily cancerous. The combination of water in the bladder, faeces in the lower colon ready to be expelled and a swollen prostate make it crowded in that area, hence the need to empty the bladder. The cancer can be extremely difficult to detect and treat. Many have been treated un-necessarily but similarly many have not been treated and died. If you have any doubts go and get checked. I first had the finger in my early 50s so age is not too relevant.

Currently have a PSA of late twenties has been higher had lots of biopsies over 30 samples taken ( you will not complain about a finger after having a biopsy 8rfl@) never found any of the big C so has been put down to other causes just have blood tests every 3 months and monitor. Dr mark porter did a great program about prostate cancers on radio 4. I have a copy of the programme if you would like very good and put my mind at rest. Have a few friends who have had various options of the big op all fine now and still with us
Good luck

Hi all
Just had blood test number 2 Results next week

But I did chat to nurse and subtle hint I wanted to know what the first result was ... So a quick look and she replied ... Mmmmm 4.1 That's not raised much... The key figure is 4.0 and +/- 5% is normally fine

Go next week to docs to get this result .....

Fingers crossed and arse cheeks clenched !!

Yeah I sgined up on the website when Bill Bailey was doing the adverts

http://prostatecanceruk.org/we-can-help?gclid=CjwKEAiA7ZajBRCpur2xi47n1zkSJADqV2Wley7k4ubUQO8-GBfr-3l0WQeaf2gepV-X-PdfZCHvWRoCNBPw_wcB

I had no contact from my GP at all even though I am now 61, so I made my own appointment for the blood test.

They took it about 4 months ago then I heard nothing, not even to say it was ok.

So while I was in the last week for my Diabetis Check Up, I just happened to ask if they had the results.

After a lot of searching though their records, they finnaly found the result, and it was low enough not to worry about it.

Just amazed that women over certain ages are contacted by their GP's for a smear test but we get sod all contact !

Just been and got my latest results.
Diabetes 44
Prostate 1.4.

Everything looking good but still getting up 3/4 times a night to pee and 6/8 times in the day so prostate must be swollen. Wish my dick was that swollen!

but still getting up 3/4 times a night to pee and 6/8 times in the day so prostate must be swollen.

I had this and it was caused by a kidney stone which I was unaware of until it woke me up one night in agony. Stone gone now I only get up to pee once at night and only a couple of times in the day. Just another possibility.

Back on track .... Just saw idiot abroad having his test done .... Apart from a few editing errors (ie both docs hands can be seen when Karl winces slightly!) it was very funny !!!

I'm certain we all have our aches and pains ... And whatever go through there is always someone with similar ... Or worse !
Being Movember ... And men's problems awareness month ... I'm glad we are all talking about certain issues and the trials and tribulations we have gone through....

Even if we save 1 person with an early diagnosis ... That is a fantastic thing !

KHi all
Bit of an update .... Second blood test was lower at 3.7 But not quite low enough!

So ..... Urine test today and referral to specialist
(Doc advised I will be be seen within 2 weeks ! As that's the maximum allowed timescale !)
He was quite reassuring and said the figure is quite low so nothing too much to worry about .. But.... It's part of the procedure that will be followed if ANY result is above the normal !
He added I would be in good hands with the specialist !!
I asked if they were big hands ... He laughed and said that DRE is unfortunately one part of the process that everyone has to go through !!

So ....
My arse is greased up ready !

A man goes to the Dr and says, "Dr, I have a terrible cold" Dr carries out a prostate exam then puts his finger under man's nose.
"Can you smell that," says the Dr. "No," he replied.
Dr says, "Yes, you do have a cold."
