DA I suggest you watch the video you posted again & bare in mind its taken with a helmet cam

He looks left & right when turning out of the industrial area & its full throttle & eyes forward from that point on even passing side roads

In the second section its again full throttle & eyes straight ahead not once does he turn his head to look into side roads, he crossed cross hatchings, even approaching the scene of the smash where a line of cars is approaching a junction he does not shut off slow down or show any awareness of the possibility of a car crossing his path, now I'm sorry he's dead but the whole thing was entirely of his own making

Against that someone else has done 160 on a dual carriageway where there are no side roads & little chance or someone crossing his path yet you revile him for it although you have done similar by your own admission

Presuming the dual carriageway was reasonably clear as I would need to be for 160 & the A road was as shown I know which I would consider doing & its certainly not acting the twat for a camera on an A road

...Yes, I agree. @tu*

Yes, I've done ?twattish speeds? in the past but that?s why I bought a track bike...

...after many crashes on the racetrack, I DO appreciate that there?s not much time to do anything
at racing speeds (i.e. 100+ mph) if/when it goes ?tits up?.

At those speeds on the public highway, you don?t give yourself, or anyone else, the best opportunity of arriving
safely at your destination.

I didn?t want to go down this route ?cos I was just stating my opinion ? but watch the video and draw your own
conclusions about ?speed-awareness?, the absolute necessity for which is what I?m really trying to express here.

At an estimated 97 mph, the lad didn't have time to look into side roads - he didn't have time to avoid the crossing vehicle
because he didn't seem to appreciate how fast he was travelling - and his luck ran out.

You ride at 160 mph on a public road without hitting anything - that's all it is - you're just fucking lucky, mate.

After 38 years (in march) & well over 400,000 miles along with a lot of training I think I am well able to judge what speed is appropriate for any given time place or condition, if your judgement differs that's fine with me DA @tu*

As for track days i'll keep it simple ....... not interested :-0) I'm a road rider pure & simple!

And with that i'll leave you all to continue the debate @tu*

I'll carry on doing the odd trackday then.

MUCH safer........

and.......

MUCH slower......

than the possibility of meeting slim comin' the other way at 160+mph on the roads.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that 160 on a public road can be acceptable. If that is the case then I do not agree you are 'well able to judge what speed is appropriate'.

You make a good point about individuals dropping in how fast they have been on the road on their Bird - i am pretty sure someone recently mentioned 160. Two things immediately come to my mind, the first being ' really', the second being total 100% knob of the highest order if they did do it.

So it looks like we disagree on the subject:-0)

Speed does not kill, Andy.

It's a sudden stop that does the damage. 160+ on an empty section of a motorway is not dangerous on a well maintained Bbird. @tu*

The stretch of road this peckerhead got caught on is about three miles from where I live. It's a dead straight piece of newish dual carriageway, a perfect drag strip/runway. Most weekends you can hear bikes at full chat early in the morning, the police just need to get out of bed early and they'd mop up.

Just noticed something.. Almost all the very high speed offences seem to be in the east Anglian region !!

Can I refer you to my statements that the offence is stupidity, not speeding? 8rfl@

What do you think would happen if you hit debri or a pothole or newly repaired pothole that is raised by say 2 in on a clear road with no junction or traffic at 160mph slim ?

Any mug can twist his wrist and hang on .

And before you throw an insult your poultry 400k would have taken me 4 years to complete 5 years ago .

I'm semi retired now and only do 50k a year

400k in 38 year , feck you need to get out more

I have no intention of throwing an insult although you do seem to have taken the view that I'm a twist & hang on straight line merchant, WRONG !

I am well aware of the possibilities for disaster, my bike my life & my choice thank you , I gave the talk many times every week for years while instructing

As for 400K that's very conservative estimate not that it matters, its still enough to know what I'm doing & why + its not a pissing contest now is it?

No it's not a pissing contest slim apologies for that part of my post , but feck me an ex instructor advocating or implying that travelling at more than double the NSL is not dangerous is quite frankly staggering .

I'm pretty sure if you asked any professional or even club standard racer that what they're doing would be considered dangerous it would be an emphatic yes . They wouldn't do it if it wasn't

These guys are infinitely more talented than than the average member of the public on a motorbike and they all fall off on a regular basis and speed resulting in loss of traction is most definitely the main cause .

I'm not trying to jump on the bandwagon here just trying to understand why you feel that it's safe to do

Yes. This.

It's what I've bin trying to apprehend.
I can understand slim assessing situations for himself- that's his choice, but I don't think you could ever say it's safe for ANYONE else who you don't know, to do so.

Slim knows the road, but he doesn't know the rider.

The default reaction surely has to be condemanation.

Yes we all speed, but it's not safe to say it's ok for others. Without full knowledge of the situation.

If that makes sense?
