Tried claiming for a lid once, visible damage to a 3-week-old carbon lid following impact with a curb. Still have the lid in a cupboard somewhere, it was almost split in two.

The Credit Card co wouldn't cover it as they said 'It's safety equipment & we don't cover Safety Equipment'. My household insurer wouldn't cover it stating the same reason. Sadly, there was no 3rd party involved as it was a track day accident (thus household rather than motor insurer), so couldn't try again. Oddly, the CC co did cover my leathers, which was not classed as 'safety equipment'. They also covered my boots and gloves. :nusenuse:

I can fully understand why car insurance
companies don't get the jist about bikers and the gear that goes with riding bikes. Another is that neither my insurance or the 3rd parties insurance have bothered to asked if it's my only means of transport, so having a lid is paramount.

Once had an accident and my insurer was useless. They even said they couldn't process my claim as I hadn't taken out legal cover, ffs. I even asked why I needed legal cover since it was a straight case of admin paper pushing with no legal action needed. Answer still no.

So I contacted his insurer asking for a claim form. They said just send us a letter stating what happened. Did so and next thing I knew I had a cheque for the bike. When I asked about my bike gear they said no problem and would I like £400 personal injury too. I wasn't hurt but I'm not daft either so said yes please. That was AXA in Cardiff. I was so impressed with their treatment of me I tried insuring next bike with them but they didn't do bikes at the time.
