As has been said, be very wary of a hire bike. Typically, they'll charge £120+ a day, through the claims management co, i.e. 4th Dimension, which will soon outstrip the value of any claim you make. At which point the 3rd party insurer is likely to claim that the charges are excessive in trrelation to the value of your bike and any claim for helmet etc. and you will suddenly become liable for the hire charges.

I'm no expert, but this is just what I've gleaned from reading White Dalton blogs. If you have other forms of transport, use that instead.

Thanks everyone...(y) but there's more.
A bit long winded, but indulge me for a mo.
After rolling across the rode and trying
to protect my lid, she gets out of the car
and states that she didn't see me.
I was extremely pissed off as you could
well imagine & after a few profanities from me, I think I scared her off.
Told her to ring the police, which see duly
did, me thinking there's no way you're getting away with this.
Two cso's arrive, the other one a male (not in pic) a beard down to his naval and
I almost asked him to do a rendition of
'La Grange' from ZZ Top to calm me down. To be fair, they did all the leg work
with her details and passed them over to me. They helped me pick the bike up and
I noticed and pointed out that the right
hand indicator was still flashing when I switched the ignition on, they confirmed that too. Anyhow, a traffic cop then pulls
up asked his colleagues a few questions
and the 3rd party was offered a seat in the back of his snazzy BM. Meanwhile i'm
onto the insurance i.e. Bennetts.
With numerous questions ranging from..
Have you past your bike test?
Was you wearing the appropriate attire?
What mods if any have you changed on
the bike?
After that I get a call from a company called 4th Dimension working on behalf
of Bennetts, so same questions again.
They have a logistics team who will arrange a date for the 'Bird' to be collected and assessed for repair/ damage via their approved Honda technicians. I already know how that's
going to turn out. Road side recovery was
eta 60 to 90 mins. Sod that I said I will
free wheel it home, it's all downhill anyway. The police actually took the
woman home and drove her feckin car
too because she was in a state....WTF!
Who's the feckin innocent party here.
Un feckin believable!!!
I arrived home eventually and get another
call from the 'Bike assist team', same feckin questions, but I am allegedly getting a loan bike, same spec as the 'Bird' apparently? It better not be that
scudzuki bus thingy?
Asked for my lid size cause that's a freebie from them after telling me to bin my nearly new lid....nowt wrong with it as far as I can see. Told me to claim for any gear had on if i'm not happy, any time lost
through injury related crash, any receipts
for medication, petrol, parking etc.
Funny how I didn't take any extra cover for
my gear either.
The accident happened like this....
She was sat at the hill of the junction waiting to turn right.
I was also turning right into junction where she was giving way.
I was doing maybe 5/10 mph, lights and
indicator on, as a crossed her path she decided to pull out and shunted me out
of the way.
I dont know what damage is under the
fairings? The right hand fairing is scuffed
to feck, left fairing ok, shroom protector
is bent at 45° just hope the frame isn't goosed?
Oil spill, no idea. Left it for an hour then
fired it up, sounds lumpy and rough, maybe oil refill will fettle that, but will
check engine covers 1st.
That's it, soz for the delay, hope it reads
well.
After yesterday's dilemma and feeling a few aches today, I must man up ya puff.
Wheeled the 'Bird' out of the garage and
set to scrutinise the damage.
Bodywork.
Both lower panels scratched, gouged and
well.....fecked.

Looked at the engine and behind the genny housing, cant find any indication
where the oil spill came from?
Headers are tight, oil sump and plug ok.
Only chain oil off sprocket as I can make out.
I have put about a pint of oil to top up and
ran the engine untill hot to check for oil
leaks. Nothing pokes me in the eye and shouts oil leak. Bike sat for an hour and no sign of oil on the floor either.
Engine sounds as should.

Checked gear lever and spindle, no play.
Checked clip-on's, forks, steering head no play at all. Looks like a new genny cover and new panels or respray.

Is the frame ok where the bungs are/were?

Sadly even if it is I think you are looking at a write off there.

Yes, thanks.
Forgot about that, all good.
I'm expecting the dreaded write off after
assessment, but if I can buy it back at scrap value?

I suspect the insurance Company will assess against the cost of new plastics etc so as JAWS suggested above you might end up OK if you can buy it back and sort it yourself. A good plastic welder might be able to salvage the panels.

Or street fighter…….

Bear in mind the some stuff for the blackbird is no longer available, for example the seat cowl.
When stuff isn't "off the shelf" Honda seem to put silly prices on the system, I guess maybe because if they supply it means a special or one off run.

Might be worth checking with your dealer what's readily available - I have a feeling the wing mirror surrounds are not .

Once you know what can't be had from Honda check out other sources?

Don’t forget the cheap reproductions panels on eBay - reports suggest they aren’t terrible quality. Even if you re spray it might be a cost effective option?

Don't know what the scrap value is, but I got a payout of £1800 less excess for my 97 Bitd. Think it had about 53k on the clock.

Mind you, I removed all luggage, custom seat, Scott oiler & Jaws HID unit before they came to pick it up & put the original parts back on. Sold them later to go towards my next bike

I got a cheap seat cowl off fleabay, apart from having to use a round file to elongate one hole a bit to accommodate the bolt, it was a good fit. Obviously it came naked and needed a paint job which I waited a couple of weeks to get done as it was so new it was still outgassing.

So a lady says she never saw you before she knocks you off (allegedly) and you want to go stealth.

You might want to think that one through  .

Agree about the stickers though…..

It's awfully dirt for a forum member's Bird.
You know the rules by now....

1.Bike must be cleaned and polished rigorously.
2.Bike must be otherwise cosseted in a heated garage.
3.Bike can only be ridden for it's MOT.

Oh hang on a sec.... you WERE riding to it's MOT. So what's your excuse for the dirt.? Did you ride past a muck spreader...?

Mines gets washed once a year whether it needs it or not, lives outside under a cover and does 1000s of miles a year! Am I still allowed to be here?

Only because the forum's Diversity and Inclusion Officer said we need at least one sprog.

If you're Trans, have two heads, are green skinned and come from Africa or the Middle East via a small inflatable then please let him know as he gets a badge from the Government for a full set of ticks.

Please note.... the "Mental or otherwise deranged" box was ticked years ago.

P. S. The "Windowlicker" and "Wayward Eejit" categories are oversubscribed too.
