If you don't have a Blackbird or don't want one, why join a Blackbird site.

If your interest is Pans, Harleys or whatever there are plenty of clubs for you.

Roxxo....I see where you're coming from but as Bert said in an earlier post, I owned a 'Bird for two years, my biking needs changed, so I chopped it for a Pan 1300.
In the time I owned the 'Bird I met some great people, learned a little of what makes the 'Bird tick, and thouroughly enjoyed my time with it. Should I now shove off and no longer chat (on here) to people I have come to regard as mates ?? Is it not possible, that sometime in the future, I may have an answer to someone's 'Bird related problem ??

Yes...there are clubs for Pan owners. I'm sorry to say that they run on the lines of 'The Pan is best...there are no other bikes worth riding'. The atmosphere is stale, no one bike can ever be the 'bee-all and end-all' of biking and how much can be said about one model of bike ???

I would be sorry to have to leave....but if B.I.R.D. is to be deemed a 'one-make-one-model' club....then so be it.

If I buy another 'Bird in the future....can I come back ???? :dunno: :}

far from it Supa - you'll always be welcome here - our website [wot I wrote] asks people to "Join up for free"

Sponsorship is NOT mandatory although very welcome [sales pitch over Rolfy]

Membership is open to all regardless of colour, class, creed, nationality, sexual preference or any other stipulation

Neither does the website mention that you have to be a BIRD owner/rider to join

However it would make common sense that for anyone to go to the trouble of joining and confiming membership they MUST have an interest in things related to the subject matter

As has been posted before many of "other" bike related forums are eliteist, unwelcoming and very clique [CLIKEY!!] - many of whom, to be be quiet frank, are deadly boring OR in the case of VDown, just too bloody big and cumbersome to remain "friendly" IMHO

BIRD forum has developed a niche for itself that seems to strike the right chords - long may it remain so - completely unmoderated

I have made many acquaintences from this forum - some of whom have developed into good friendships

For sure, my riding skills are vastly improved from meeting up and riding with other bikers [regardless of what bike they ride]

That's good enough for me

Well what do you think chaps? I was thinking it could be called one of the following;

1 The Bullsh*t Bar
2 Crap Cafe
3 V.I.P Lounge (Vurtually Irrelevant Postings)

Membership would not be exclusive, but should include all those members out there who feel the need to;

1 Hijack threads at every oportunity, steering it away from the initial subject to something completely different.

2 Start threads that have nothing at all to do with biking in general, and more to do with something said in what ever pub you were in, on a subject that would be of no interest to anyone who was not there.

3 Do not own a bike, or possibly don't even have a license.

If we had this new section to the Forum, it would make life so much easier when you log on, click on New Posts, and find a long list of threads that have been added to since your last visit. You start veiwing these posts and threads , only to find that a vast majority however genuine the initial subject, turn into a long list of boring, backstabing, bitching, uninteresting drivel. With the new section you could bypass 80% of the above straight away as it would be in either 1,2 or 3 above. I understand that a lot of what is posted is only banter, but its not in the slightest bit interesting to the majority of members, and frankly would be better placed in an e-mail, rather than swallowing up bandwidth that could better put to better use.

Ever wondered what happened to all those members out there that you know still own Blackbirds but never seem to post? Well they have all lost interest, and spend there time elsewhere reading things that are actually interesting!!! Not to mention a lot of the new members who post once or twice, and then dissappear into thin air.

So come on chaps, don't hold back, what do you think?

Stu

ps, can i borrow your tin hat John?

get a life

I'm only trying to understand why a non Blackbird rider would want to join and to understand the stance of the BIRD administration/site owners.

The original idea started by Anth Martin was for Blackbird riders to exchange info./views and meet fellow Blackbird Riders.

That hasn't changed. I still don't understand why anybody would want to join a Blackbird Riders club if they don't ride a blackbird.

I thought this site/group was model specific as per the title. Obviously this has changed over the years.

Lumpy bleats on about zero posters. Why be a member if you don't want to join in? Why be a member if you don't have a Blackbird?

Why would you want to camp out in a muddy field with few facilities along with scores of Blackbird owners if you don't have a Blackbird?

I personally wouldn't join a site just for a chat/piss take.

I have friends on other bike/interest specific sites but they wouldn't join BIRD just because they know me.

Just asking the question.

That was the point I was trying to make, Roxxo. When I first joined B.I.R.D. I owned a BlackBird and wanted to join a club where folks knew the bike, understood the bike, and could maybe steer me in the right direction if I had problems with the bike.

The fact I've now changed bike doesn't alter the way I feel about people I've met through the forum. I still believe the 'Bird is the best in it's class, I would still have another one tomorrow if my biking needs change, I still think that this forum is the best on the 'net and, with very few exceptions, I think this forum has the best mix of characters on the 'net.

I'd miss it......I'd get over it...but I'd miss it. :beer:

My brother in Spain is a member, he was gonna help out organising my BIRD members Catalunya 2005 trip...........

Its all off folks, he aint got a BIRD :rolleyes:
Dirty Sanchez, your out..
Gatso, your out..
MikeW, you too along with Scalesey, Mozza (thats your H.Gericke discount gone), Artemis, CB500 boy (Gareth) + loads i've not mentioned.

If these people were gone who don't have a BIRD then this site would die. . .
Its about evolving, rotation of members, changing trends and new ideas.

Stuey, you put this in your post (2 Start threads that have nothing at all to do with biking in general, and more to do with something said in what ever pub you were in, on a subject that would be of no interest to anyone who was not there.)
Well, you have replied to many many threads which are completely irrelevent to bikes, some for MP3 files, DIY help, CAR problem etc so its a bit contradictory putting No2 point up at all.

I agree with the complete Hi Jack problems on Rideout & Help forums though.

Sorry Roxxo - yes it has!

It may be an under-pinning of why someone would join but it's not mandatory

Perhaps that's why the "old hats" can't comprehend current modes

As the web has developed beyond recognition over thge last few years, so has the forum - so whats wrong with that?

I don't wantyou or anybody to leave. If I sold my Bird I would still enjoy the forum but I would feel a little out of it at the Bash or on a ride out on any other bike. But that's just me.
But what makes somebody join in the first place a "club" that by it's name isfor Blacbird riders.
I have met some very nice non Blackbird riders on here, Sean, Chunky, Jane, Canary, Derek.

Now she's in the bedroom, sobbing her heart out John. :cry:

Once we're in the new house (with integral garage :lick: :} ) Trace has decided she wants another bike to replace the departed Kwak. Current favourite is another Kwak................the VN800. This will be parked next to me Pan.......just in front of my ongoing 'Project V-Max'. If we join all the forums that we're entitled to I don't see us having any time to get onto B.I.R.D. !!!!! :}

Could we not change the club name ??? BlackBird Enthusiasts and Riders Domain ?? B.E.R.D.......it still sounds like B.I.R.D. !!!!!! :}

I didn't say that there is anything is wrong with it.

OK I have a bird, but I wouldn't dream of joining the MZ Riders club or the Fireblade riders club.

Just trying to improve my understanding.

You are right FB, the web , the forum the country has changed. More tolerant and understanding, multicultural and welcoming.

Nothing wrong with that.

Community and friendship
What a wonderful BIRD motto
perhaps somebody could translate that into Latin for us.
