Do we need a new section to the Forum

Well what do you think chaps? I was thinking it could be called one of the following;

1 The Bullsh*t Bar
2 Crap Cafe
3 V.I.P Lounge (Vurtually Irrelevant Postings)

Membership would not be exclusive, but should include all those members out there who feel the need to;

1 Hijack threads at every oportunity, steering it away from the initial subject to something completely different.

2 Start threads that have nothing at all to do with biking in general, and more to do with something said in what ever pub you were in, on a subject that would be of no interest to anyone who was not there.

3 Do not own a bike, or possibly don't even have a license.

If we had this new section to the Forum, it would make life so much easier when you log on, click on New Posts, and find a long list of threads that have been added to since your last visit. You start veiwing these posts and threads , only to find that a vast majority however genuine the initial subject, turn into a long list of boring, backstabing, bitching, uninteresting drivel. With the new section you could bypass 80% of the above straight away as it would be in either 1,2 or 3 above. I understand that a lot of what is posted is only banter, but its not in the slightest bit interesting to the majority of members, and frankly would be better placed in an e-mail, rather than swallowing up bandwidth that could better put to better use.

Ever wondered what happened to all those members out there that you know still own Blackbirds but never seem to post? Well they have all lost interest, and spend there time elsewhere reading things that are actually interesting!!! Not to mention a lot of the new members who post once or twice, and then dissappear into thin air.

So come on chaps, don't hold back, what do you think?

of making you stick to the subject... get a life...lighten up. It's called the coffee shop so we can discuss anything. Generally speaking the help section is kept serious but ....hey you're not fishing are you... have you got a rod licence? Anyone not liking the present format can always follow the alleged others who have gone to a more disciplined site. Bondage rules ok. :m

Good point, well put Stuey

This may as well not be a Blackbird Rider's site at all.
Do other model specific "interest groups", "clubs", "sites" allow anyone as a member?
I see from Jaws post about the Bash that NON Blackbird owner's and rider's are welcome.
Let's not call it a Blackbird Bash.
If you don't have a Blackbird or even a motorcycle why bother "joining" a Blackbird "group"?

I think that SOME of what goes on is crap however this is a very 'social' forum and although it looks like utter bollox to many, many of us use it as a central meeting, a kind of 'coffee shop'.
I'm sure you've seen the pics of our meets such as the 'Matlock' meetings, 'Lord Derby' and the other rideouts which take place OUTSIDE of the Cloggers circle, these meets don't just pop up but evolve from a built friendship created from 'banter' and light hearted humour.
In a group the size of BIRD it is going to be the case that some will fall out and some will move on but to see the numbers of people attending the social events each month from North & South then something must be correct.
I have dished it out and i've taken it, i must also confess that i have met some genuinely nice people (inc yourself & Elaine), Lumpy, Bob Pinder,Ian & Tina and of course FB who has been a rock  ( i know there are many many more  )
This forum IS a valuable source of information which is predominantly XX's and some other stuff mixed in, if i need technical help thats the page i visit, if i need to organise a rideout, thats where i look 8l1nd
A forum which doesn't have regular postings is gonna go stale, very quickly, you asked for us not to hold back so :dunno: , don't take it on a personal level but if you don't like it FIGHT BACK and make it how you want it :-:

So if someones wife has a CBR600 ( or like BB owned a kwak ) we should say sorry, you cannot attend unless on a Bird ?
Wow, that would be a great way to win friends and influence folk that would ! LOL !

As to why bother to join a Blackbird group... no idea.... ah yes, hang on a minute..
Could it have something to do with the fact that if you join, say, the BSA Owners Club, not a soul will be able to talk techy about the Bird ?
Or perhaps in your opinion Roxxo, only posts and people who own ride and live Birds should have any input or attend any function ? ( To be fair there are many folk who fall firmly into that catagory, myself included ! :p

BIRD

BLACKBIRD international RIDER'S domain

Bit of a clue there.

I Wouldn't join the MZ rider's group because I don't have a MZ and I don't wish to ride out with MZers on my Bird, SP1 or XR.

I wouldn't go on a BIRD rideout or attend the Bash on anything other than my Bird.

There are plenty of groups catering for all types of motorcycles and riders.

I thought this site was for Blackbird Riders

I don't have a 'Bird - I looked on here originally because I WAS going to get one - it didn't happen and is looking increasingly like it won't. Kids, mortgage the size of a small African country etc. Do you mean that I can no longer take part? I enjoy the banter, piss taking etc - I was thinking about attending this years BASH. But it will be on the Pan or the CBR 1000 because that is what I have. Surely this site is big enough to accomodate POTENTIAL 'Bird riders? Or am I wrong?

As I have previously stated I have been without a bike for two and a half years due to an accident on my previous bike (600 Bandit) I had resolved never to ride again, Steve Brooke informed me about this site and after becoming a member then a super sponsor and meeting some of the folk from the forum, and hearing about their spills some a lot worse than mine (Cyclops you are an inspiration) my enthusiasm has returned and I pick up my BB on 1st Feb,
I would like to take this opportunity to say to everybody on this forum Thanks for guiding me back, because if it wasn't for you I would probably never ride again

Please do not change the forum it is ok as it is

Mummmm

so I had a Blackbird ( in the only true Colour Titanium ) had to sell it when I thought I was never going to get back on a bike again.

I have since partily recovered the use of my leg, but due to the weight of the Bird I have had to go for a Fireblade.

So is that me out then   I have met and made many new friends on this forum.

I have joined the Fireblade forum, but still come back here as I enjoy the piss taking etc etc.

I do feel that sometime when somebody asks for help that people do hijack the thread and this practice perhaps ought to stop.

I have no wish to leave but if there is going to be a witch hunt then I will go with the majoraty discision

and if that means leaving then so be it

The forum has already changed from what it was when I joined, what used to be light hearted amusing banter has of late turned decidedly ugly in a lot of instances with a lot of threads turning into personal slanging matches and long drawnout rants that have nothing to do with Blackbirds or even bikes in general.
The Unmoderated tripe and general bad attitude has sent a lot of old members to ground and discouraged a lot of new members from joining.
There needs to be a bit of a rethink by Admin and a move back to the basics if Bird is to move ahead and not deteriorate into an irelevant hate site.

Lets not forget~~~

This forum is for people who:-

a] Own a bird
b] Ride a bird
c] Aspire to either a] or b]
d] Have an interest in either a] or b]
e] Have an interest in motorcycling and find the forum entertaining or informative
f] Have an interest in biking and would like to take part in this community

Case in point..............
Chunky Monkey - rides a VTR - will probably never own a bird - not his style
BUT he's attended more rideouts and socials than most members put together. He's also contributed greatly to organising events - either up front or behind the scenes. He became a member of BIRD after I encouraged/bagered him. He is also a member of a VTR forum where to use his own words "Boring old Twats who say nothing...achieve nothing...do nothing" HE PAYS A SPONSORSHIP FEE [which is a damm site more than a lot of so-called visitors/guests/ part time members do!!!!!!]

Second Case in point Supa BobBird.................
Used to ride a Bird - now rides a Pan
Frequently contibutes - pays a sponsor fee - frequently attends ride outs and socials - wicked sense of humour and proud co-sponsor or Cyclops World Tours as Maps-R-Us

Third Case in point - Crozzers
Only rides pillion...............appears to have little interest in all thing bikey except for riding pillion.....enjoying herself whilst doing so ...and bollocking RHINO for riding too fast. Yet she takes an active part in the forum....attends and contributes to ride ou8ts and socials...AND PAYS A SPONSORSHIP FEE to help fund the costs of running the site and forum

Should these people not be welcome at our door?

This forum has evolved into a genuine community of like-minded individuals [male and female] who enjoy the banter and who CONTRIBUTE something

Remember that we have also raised over ?1600 for CLIC through various means

As far as I'm concerned [cue Lumpy] post what the hell you like as long as it's NOT offensive/abusive/illegal and it's either entertaining, amusing or informative - as it's better to post something and contribute than to sit on the sidelines doing NOTHING

Stuey......
Don't worry about bandwidth usage - that's our problem
Don't worry about people leaving the forum - if they didn't fit in here - little point in staying
Don't worry about the banter - a thread that answers a technical question from someone needing help [as long as the question is eventually answered] may actually appreciate and understand the banter that goes on as well and contribute more

You only have to be at the 2005 BASH to experience for yourself what a great bunch of people we are on here

For those who haven't been on a rideout yet or attended a social beer-or-two - GET IN ON THE ACT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!!

Next get-together is this Friday 14th January at Matlock - I'll extend the genuine hand of friendship to anyone who makes the effort to attend - in fact I'll even buy a beer to ALL the newcomers - all welcome

Bottom line is really quiet simple - get involved or get a life!

Wolfie

Is a lunp
I would like to take this opportunity to say to everybody on this forum Thanks for guiding me back, because if it wasn't for you I would probably never ride again

You are most welcome, and i in return would like to thank you for getting a bike again, because the more people i can help to get on or back onto a bike the better.

I do feel that sometime when somebody asks for help that people do hijack the thread and this practice perhaps ought to stop.

agree totally, it is what the help forum is there for as long as it is about birds, coffee shop is there for banter and non bird related help and friendship.

how many people now run
avg
spybot
know how to do their excel bits
what download sites to use
learnt more about their dogs
found cheap ins
cheap parts
have had a feckin good laugh
cry with other peoples pain
meet some bloody good people
have been helped in non bird relateted ways
found new routes to ride
discovered bands/films that they would of passed on before
had people tell you that if you need some muscle they will help you.

I have for one, and i have given most of the above to others as well.

The coffee shop is a cafe on the side of the road where one and all can come into and join in, it just has BIRD CAFE on the front.

the other forums are there for help, rideouts, etc etc.

peace to all. :k
