John...Assume from your comments that figures quoted by manu'f and most bike mags are clock speed not actual speed.... I'm pi55ed now that means the car is as quick top end as the bike.....

Recorded 41.7 mph on my bicycle last weekend - I think I can now claim the record no

Had 49mph coming down a mountain in Majorca :-:
Compared to the 1hour @8MPH to get up said mountain it was fookin brilliant :yo:

We have some great deserted roads here in Dubai...

I have done 295Km/h (183Mph) on my 2000 EFI barge (GPS rated) with the speedo well into the 300KM/h section.... Jaws is right - the feckin clocks over-read like bastards and are not to be trusted!

285 km/hr indicated a couple of months ago. The fastest it had previously been is 270 km/hr when Clive Johnson rode it when he was visiting NZ in 2003. Took a long time to get past that!

Had my Birds speedo over as far as it would go in Holland travelling along one of their canal paths a few years back.

Had Sean, Chunky and Tim in tow at the time, left them for dead.

The world goes by pretty quick at that speed.

Quick calculation shows average speed 155 mph, with a few nutters doing 185+.

Fast enough to loose your licence for a few years!!

And after all that I got 3 points and a ?60 fine yesterday for filtering past stationary traffic (1st gear walking speed) because I crossed a double white line - nothing coming the other way..... 5 bike cops were cruising around the area dishing out fines all day, and one happened to see me....

I was clocked on police hand held at 143 just after I had the owd girl.
The speedo was showing 150, but it was all a bit blurred to be honest.

No I didnt get done, but thats another story.

Never had chance to go over that speed, but I don't think it would bother me in the right conditions.

Ok Murt, bet I'm not the only one that would love to know how you got away with being clocked at 143 mph by the Police. Go on, spill the beans, we DO have all day.....:-:

Either worried that the Police are watching...or HAD thought that doing 110 for 10 seconds on the M1 made them a racing god......:bandit:

but, hey, it's not about the speed, its enjoying the ride!!!!!

I maxed my Bird on three occasions, twice in the Loire Valley and once on the way back from Catalunya. Each time the speedo would show well over 185, in reality I reckon I may have just about been nudging a 170 (EFI) - each time with tank bag and soft oxford luggage........

My 12R's speedo probably showed a similar exaggeration as the Honda's, and only once did I try to really max it out, 3am on a cold morning. 5th pulled it hard through an indicated 180, but once it started to pull in 6th there was no way I was gonna risk a glance at what the speedo showed, things were getting pretty choppy in the cockpit, and it was still pulling like a twat when I backed off.

I had 64mph out of a Honda C90 once on the flat, as verified by my Mum in a nissan micra

To cut a very long story short, travelling at 'sensible' speed on long duel carriageway, no turnoff, lights etc.
Along comes a vectra playing with a BMW ( both unmarked). they started using me as a sort of buffer to overtake, then slow down. having a play.

Not another vehicle in sight.

I got pissed off with the antics, and as the car turned off into a sliproad I ' opened the owd girl up'. R#?

The Beemer ( I thought) started playing about, overtaking, slowing down, speeding up etc..
So I got really fed up and left it standing.

Then I saw the pretty blue lights and realised the bike was unmarked plod..

Stopped, he showed me the vid of what had happened and started taking details.
I played the trump card and explained that I would want to show the WHOLE vid in Court ( showing the little games he and the unmarked Vectra had been playing) and I was trying to get away from a moron. also explained he should be ashamed as at least I was using the system.. lots of head scratching, severe bollocking given, told Its a good job my riding was safe ( apart from the speed) and off he went.
Its luck that I had not got involved in the game they were playing cos I think thats all that gave me the edge. :dunno:
I think it was down to the circs on the day, attitude, and actually knowing thay would get into deep shite if the case was proceeded with.

Of course, If any officers of da law are watching.

Its all Bollocks

We all KNOW a Barge won't go over 70 anyway.

Was aware there was a bit of overreading on the speedo but didn't realise it was as much as Jaws says.... had got the impression the Bird was more accurate than some other bikes - recall someone on here saying 80 displayed is 77 per GPS. Oh well. I'll keep it to an indicated 85 on the mways now then knowing I'm safe(ish).
Bit of a clue though I guess if if keeping steady speed over a distance you wonder why your calculated average isn't as high as what's been displayed (mileometer not being so far out as the speedo).

Further claims on previous equipment: 95 mph ind on me 250 Superdream (83 2 up  ), n think I got 75 ind out of the GP100. Pushbike must have got well above 50 over the course of thousands of miles on the mountain roads in Cornwall I grew up on.

Motorway in a country to the West of us

No-one in sight, built up to an indicated 180 mph when a police car coming down the other carriageway put his blue lights on. I backed off to a more reasonable speed and headed for the border as quickly as possible expecting to see someone waiting for me before I crossed over. Fortunately no-one. I think he was unable to tell what speed I was doing but knew it was a lot more than 70 and was warning me to back off. It certainly felt fast but stable to me. Trouble was getting under cover with me belly on the tank.lol.
Previous fastest before that was 160mph indicated on the VTR1000.

Murt, good on yah, lucky boy. Police are getting crafty now - I have seen an unmarked Triumph 675 (well, had a small POLICE sticker on the screen) and my mate saw a Yam R1 that the cops use here in Sussex.

Got to be sooooo careful these days, especially in the South East where I live - cameras, Police, TRAFFIC everywhere.....:bang:
