I wonder about the comment about removing the fork caps for the installation of the risers. On the XX, are the caps just covers or are they, like many bikes, actually holding the fork springs in place?

-Keith

Welcome Keith, I am hoping that the postage cost's will not inhibit the States, as these are small and light.

As for the springs this is not a problem so long as the bike is on a centre stand and you only replace one cap at a time.

If you have a look at the picture below, this is of the original cap attached to the damper rod, as you can see the spring is still in the fork tube, once the 14mm lock nut on the damper rod is slackend off, you just spin the cap off and put the modified one on in it's place.

As I said before, I could fit a set of these in under 5 min's

Pete,

I've been looking at the hoses for the clutch and brakes on my '03 'bird and it doesn't appear to me that there is enough slack in them to accept your risers. It doesn't appear there's enough slack, even if I unclip the brake hose from the fork; there's definitely very little slack in the clutch hose, maybe enough for a 1/2" (I guess that would be 13mm?) lift. What year is your bike? Is there something I'm missing here? Do you (or anyone) know if the bikes sold in the are UK different from those sold here in the States (besides color, of course)?

Hi Keith, I know it looks very tight but you will be surprised. Also the clutch pipe is held to the frame via a small "R" clip and can be released from there to give you the extra length you need to slip the bar over the riser :yo:

I got all the height that I wanted by installing a set of VTEC VFR bars on top of a set of GenMar Risers.

I had enough length in the hoses because I'd replaced them when I de-linked my brakes.

blkbrdrydr, have you droped the forks as they recomend or are you just relying on the pinch bolt squeezing the cap they supply and the top of the fork?

Do you have any problems with the higher bars contacting the windscreen when the bars are turned full lock in either direction?

The Genmar risers are only 3/4" in height. That leaves plenty of fork tube available for the pinch bolts to squeeze. I was never interested in changing the handling of the Bird by dropping the fork tubes.

Here in the U.S. many XX owners just raise their OEM bars 3/4" with no problems just to save on the cost of purchasing higher bars.

There is actually very little difference in adding the additional 3/4" of height to the VFR bars. Sometimes I remove the risers and sometimes I have them in place.

 whilst I agree the pinch bolt does hold what's left of the fork tight enough not to move whilst riding normally. But the forces generated in a tank slapper situation are enormous or even in emergency steering they are a lot higher than you would think.
All the best to ya blkbrdrydr

All Shook Up

Ah Pete,

Youv'e missed the point,.........again

I think blkbrdrydr riders plan is cunning,

when he gets a slapper, the bars will neatly release

so that all that nasty vibration doesn't upset his riding

position,

:goofy: :puke: R#?

Well just got the price in from the engineers.
In aluminium with an anodised finish they will cost about ?50 -?55
These would be manufactured by Oberon a company that already makes a wide range of motorcycle accessories and the quality should be A+.

Please give me some feedback as to whether or not to go ahead with this.

Thanks
