vfr bars

Hi Jono

If it helps I have just purchased and fitted VFR bars. You definately need the 2002 VTEC versions with 43mm dia. Bought em from David Silver Spares 01728 833020.

Part Nos 53100MCWDOO = R Hand
" " 53150mcwDOO = L Hand

Cost was ?120 plus vat and post = ?148. 56
This was a discount price for waiting 3 weeks (actually came in 2).

No probs fitting, had to remove the small hose locating lug from the brake and clutch cylinders, and release the clutch hose from the clip on the left side of headstock. The spring retaining clip in the top of the forks even refitted ok. They look like oe fitting unlike other bars I have seen.

Lift is approx 11/4" and bars are further back, riding position is now like my old 900 Trophy. Really comfy

Had to fit Double bubble screen though as wind blast was hitting me at eye level. Bought Powerbronze airflow.

Regards

Check out Item No. 2437468951 on ebay. The bloke who auctioned them (Dave) sent me an email and says he should be able to get hold of some more. ?65 plus P&P. Smart bit of kit.

risers

Are these like the Genmar risers??? Not really risers at all but trims for raised bars. You can rise the bars on the bird by 19mm without anything by removing the ring on top of the fork tubes and loosening the clamp and pull them up. I would not go over 20mm though. Re-torque the clamps and away you go.

Be a bit careful regards the risers on Ebay. The way they are designed they can only be used safely if the front forks are pushed up through the yokes, this obviously lowers the front end of the bike.
If the front end of the bike is lowered it has a detrimental effect upon the handling, it will quicken up the steering and cause the bike to "tip in", or in other words the bike will try and steer you into the bend rather than you steering it.
If you fit these risers without dropping the front end, and just re lie on the single pinch bolt to grip the top of the fork and the stainless cap, then best of luck to you :t

Yes DB they are coming along, have had prototypes made and will be talking to Oberon about making said risers as soon as they get back from the show.
Also I will hopefully be making the mirror extenders.

Well this is them, they are fitted by removing the handle bar, slipping the spacers over the fork tubes, (not sure if these will be one height or variable), then removing the original fork cap and fitting an extended cap so the bars can be re fitted without altering the length of the forks.
This has raised the bars by 28mm all the cables still reach, they do not hit the fairing and you can fit them in less than 5 minutes.
Only thing I don't know yet is the price, I should imagine about ?100 CHEAPER than a set of VFR bars

Just finished fitting them and it peed down with rain so I haven't finished the picys yet, so keep an eye on this post.

The screen is an MRA screen from Bob Pinder at www.gobybike.com (just send royalties to Blackbird Spares Bob:yo: )

Heated grips are from Honda

Clock faces from me

Acumen gear indicator from ebay (search for VFR or acumen)

As for the price, I now have to produce the working drawings and send them off to the machining company, so it wont be for a couple of weeks yet .:dunno:

I'm new to the forum and the owner of a new '03 XX (one week). I'm quite interested in these bar risers, so I will be watching this thread closely for more information. I'm in the USA, so I hope that won't be an issue in obtaining a set when they are available.

Being a new owner, with only the owner's manual available (will be purchasing a shop manual), I wonder about the comment about removing the fork caps for the installation of the risers. On the XX, are the caps just covers or are they, like many bikes, actually holding the fork springs in place? If the latter, then what does one do when removing the caps to replace on top of the extenders to keep the springs from coming part way out? Or is that just part of the install? Also, if the latter, then are spacers required under the extenders so the fork springs stay in place?

Thanks. I'm enjoying reading the articles in this forum.
