Bird Handling
Wow, what a spicy bit of dialogue! However it has picqued my interrest. My wife and I have just returned from a 3000 kms road trip through the mountains of southern BC and up north to Edmonton, Alberta and home from a northern route. My 02 Bird is equiped with full Give bags; two 35 L side bags, a 40 L top box, brake lite wired in. My weight plus wife and luggage approx. 330-340 lbs. I have ridden this Bird 60,000 kms. Mostly big touring miles. This is the longest tour with my Babe. I do not have 6' spacers. I don't think I ride my bike overly "spirited".
Will the added sharpened up turn-in in effect fully loaded, two-up riding in any adverse manner? Granted, I ride mostly alone but it's the two up I'm curious about. However, during this tour the bike was much more planted on the road and I quite liked that feel. The Bird is an excellent sports touring bike, in my opinion. Speed limits max at 110 kph but when I factured in speedo error I was comfy at 130 kph all day. I never lacked for power under any circumstances, some passes up to 185 kph most often 160 kph. Perfect weather and roads, great temp. I'm sure I averaged great mileage, 350 kms per tank no problem. I think it's necessary to change the seat and I went to a Corbin Gunfighter Lady, and we're cosy on it. Riding two up is a great way to temper one's riding and share the trip. I highly recommend it. Next year we'll cross America coast to coast. I've been spying on the Yam FJR 1300 for my possible next ride. Cheers
