The problem with the BLACKBIRD

Is it's so dam good, that a forum needs to have it's character's, good banter and have fun at Berts expense, coz there is not a lot of technical issues etc to discuss.

The bike is brilliant out of the box.

Oh no it's not!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

It's "good" out of the box

but it's better after 10K miles and a 6mm spacer on the shock to sharpen up the handling!

The 6 mm spacer is not needed if you know how to countersteer, very fast steering bikes can be too fast for some.
To get to the 10k performance break just spank it out of the box. it comes much quicker.

Ask the majority of BIRD members about the spacing "tweak" and they will tell you about the improvement

Counter-steering, as any "fule know" is a natural reaction, it's just that not every rider realises that they do it - naturally

As your old school reports used to say "Could do better"

Try again?

Well~~~

as the "font of all knowledge" you must already know

Try it and see - then weep and come grovelling back to concede that you were WRONG!

Let me get this right, YOU in your infinite wisdom, have decided along with a few others on this board, that HONDA'S design engineers after spending several million ? are a bunch of tossers. they missed out a 6mm plastic spacer.
It would seem that they can design and produce probably the best all round road going M/B, but that YOU know better with a 5pence peice of plastic.

Wake up dude and get a life. man8um

The bird is designed with long distance touring in mind - hence the non-adjustable forks and the slow steering. If you want to use the bird in a more sporting style the single best cheapest tweak you can make to it is the spacer - it transforms the geometry just enough to make it MUCH more twistable, I know, I tried both with and without. Don't know if you have a bird but if you do, try it before you knock it, or ask tuners, they know what they're talking about and will confirm that. Then again, if you use your bird as a motorway train and never go large in the twisties, not much point.

The BIRD is sold and marketed as a high speed Sports Tourer and set up from the factory as such.

Case in point - stock screen and front fender - both specifically designed in the wind tunnel for minimal drag resistence - in reality neither work that well - which is why afternarket double bubble screens with a higher drag coefficeint are more practical

From the crate is does exactely as it says on the tin

However, as stated above, should you wish to use the BIRD on a more sports-orientated basis, then certain "modifications" are required

All machines can be improved or made more to the riders taste. Some arseholes actually use the Blackie for putting luggage and shit on so each to their own. Mainstream and mass produced machines are made within a tolerance band and are all set up to a compromise. If they were perfect they wouldn't put adjustment on the things with respect to suspension, controls etc. I do not have the spacer fitted, and bikes with saggy front springs steer quick enough anyways, and I can hustle mine okay (or could before the alarm died). Rhino is living proof that you can have the swankiest suspension but if not set up properly fooks the whole bike up. People also persoanlise things, ya know Pink Seats, different color panels, double bubble etc to suit their tastes and style. If the bike was perfect you would need to tell the factory your weight, build, etc. and then buying second user would be a nightmare.

Countersteering is not natural but you HAVE to do it to ride The level to which you do it dictates the pace you can ride at, sharper steering equals less input required. Push or pull, it all works the same.

Hope this helps and is a bit more constructive than old Bertie features comments. There is no real need for the sarcasm everyone uses on this site.

It is a shame you impune the opinion of riders on here that have tried the mod and found it to work. If the bike was perfect we would all still be using D205's.

Have a little think before you post unless you are trying to incite the dickheads on here. In that case, go ahead and post in your usual manner. :k

Broke cover have you I see.

Firstly I said out of the BOX

The box at the moment is as of todays date, can allow for updates, HMMM no 6mm plastic spacer spotted yet.

Blackbird turns fine stock steering is as fast as the rider needs it to be.

I can see the need to increase the ground clearence though, BUT as a big heavy bike on the track, which I might add was not in its design brief it does push the front end hard and may reduce the available grip on turn in.

Please note this is my non tested opinion as I have never fitted the spacer.

As for road use I dont see the need.

Site moderator is I feel hampering your style and hiding your true colours, you need to return to your oldself the master in incitation asap.

In life, it is a major asset to be able to determine a bit of banter, from nasty and vindictive posting. As you well know.

In my opinion that bit a banter is why I enjoy coming here and so did you I recall and most of the regular posters.

I can see quite clearly the inner turmoil of your mind over this. :loo:

Constructive comment without sarcasm

[LUMPY QUOTE Some arseholes actually use the Blackie for putting luggage and shit on so each to their own.

Practise what you preach about sarcasm lumpy!!! I don't just commute or fanny about on sunday rideouts, I tour on my bike so I kinda need luggage occasionally (Brakelady needs more!!!) but that hardly makes me an 'arsehole'

This is my point, being a moderator carries responabilities your mind can't manage.

An honarable resignation is the right thing to do, we will all understand you have never had a constructive word to say to anyone.

Just do it NOW.
