Helmet off or no fuel!!!

Just been to my local garage in the village which has a spar supermarket as well, stood by the pump waiting for it to be switched on, bike on centre stand, gloves and sunglasses on seat, woman comes out and says I need to remove my helmet before they can give me fuel!!!
When I ask why she says 'cause I might do a drive off and it's for security.
Now, I'm all for security, (considering my previous employment), but I have always filled up here with no problem in the past, I have used both the pay at pump system and pay at counter system with no issues while wearing my helmet. I'm considering going back in the car and getting the manager's details and write a letter of complaint, will it go anywhere though? I'm a little peeved! b0x1

This happened to me in a busy tesco on a friday teatime. I stood at the counter waving a tenner (exact money) at them. They refused to take it because I was wearing my lid. I wouldn't budge from the counter and caused a massive tailback out of the forecourt which snarled up the shop carpark until no-one could get in or out. They threatened to call the police. I told them to go ahead, as no crime was being committed the police wouldn't be interested. That flummoxed them.

Eventually I chucked the tenner at them and left as I had to be at work and time was getting tight.

I wrote to the petrol station manager but she wouldn't meet with me so I don't go there any more. Use 2 local BP stations which are very happy to accept my money.

My argument is that if I intend to rob the place I wouldn't take any notice of a request to remove my lid. If I am an honest person, they have nothing to fear. If I was wearing a Burkah, they wouldn't dare ask me to remove it. In the winter it's a work of art keeping the lid, collar and neck area warm and draught proof, can't be achieved easily on a forecourt. Their policy REQUESTS you to remove the lid which I declined. Their policy doesn't ask you to remove the balaclava underneath, or the sawn off shotgun outside, etc, etc.

I might call in again soon and see if their attitudes have changed, mine hasn't.

Try removing your helmet and putting on a false beard and glasses before you go to the counter ,it really fecks them up:-0)

I always remove lid, even open face, out of courtesy, just do the same and don't be so precious. Twat

Why should we accept discrimination? They are criminalising us by association. Perhaps you don't get out in the winter, I do. Maybe I ought to randomly discriminate against patients I look after. That would go down well.

They're a service industry, they need our custom. Pissing off your customers was never good practice. My wife works in a small garage with petrol forecourt and never gets a problem with bikers. Car drivers on the hand, give her no end of grief.

Lumpy in a perfect world courtesy goes a long way, but I do not like battling to get my helmet gloves etc.. back on while the next person in q glares at me constantly nudging forward in their nice shiny BMW all the while I try not to loose it and throw my helmet through the windscreen :) , maybe if everyone was expected to removed head wear obstructing the view of your face I would be more inclined to suffer the inconvenience. In all fairness though if the station is not busy I always remove my lid and take a breather.sh1tehppns

I no longer use the local garage that insists I remove my helmet..
I do not mind doing it in the summer to be honest but not in the winter...

I also pointed out that if I wanted to rob the place I would hardly take notice of a remove helmet sign !!

Oh, damn !!! Cannot rob this place as I have gotta take me hat off.. best go find somewhere else to rob then.. DOH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and The last time I went there I had a balaclava on under me hat..
That fooked up up as well !!!

I usually remove the lid .... not really a big deal :dunno:

However, occasionally if I'm running late for work or something I might not.

Not long ago local garage (with a spar shop funnily enough :-0)) told me to remove the lid when I was waiting to pay.

I'd already filled up and was running late for work.

Said "nope, I'm in a hurry" ..... when they said they wouldn't serve me I gave the option of taking the offered money for the fuel I already had or letting me have it for free.

With a brief "you've got 10 seconds to make your mind up, I'm in a hurry for work".

They took the money :-0)

ps .... if you don't like it just take your own sweet time for lid off, gloves off, pay and all back on again....
as for serving you ...... it;s their choice if they want your custom .... suspect most wouldn't give a toss about losing the odd bike tank tank of fuel custom.

I like it when I go in to pay & they ask me which pump.

'Mine's the bike' is the usual reply, slightly muffled through the helmet & balaclava.

Come on you Hatters
Only once had an issue in Leominster Morrisons. Never used them since, BP just down the road doesn't object.
Never take helmet off, have been asked a few times once at the till paying, but politely told them they only need to see the colour of my money, whilst waving it at them.
Must admit I mostly use Tescos pay at the pump these days, its just so much quicker.
I reckon best answer if you're desperate for fuel is take it off to fill, then back on to walk into shop to pay, and if they refuse to take it do as Duckndive say's. Its free if they refuse to take the money. Thats always been my plan, but never had to go that far yet.

How about we plan some rideouts to these garages as a protest. Sat morning, fill the forecourt all refusing to remove helmets!!

I had that once. I pointed out that my policy is that all counter staff should be topless, and that I'd remove mine when she removed hers.

Didn't work, though. :xm She just let me pay with my lid on.

i used my local morrisons a couple of years bk to fill up and didnt realised they had over changed me. what had happened was the lady behind the counter didnt hear me say the pump number and promptly let me walk out the shop without paying for the fuel, 2 weeks later a knock at the door from the police for stealing fuel so i said take me down the garage and ill pay so i got there paid and promptly asked for the points for my miles card the woman looked at me as if to say you cheeky F***er haha
