ASSEN 2004

following the fantastic time had by all the riders on the Assen 2003 run, mostly Midland Massif riders, I have been put into the position of sorting a rideout to the 2004 GP in June and on the same weekend on the Sunday attend the Dutch BB Bash.

So, the dates for this weekend are Thursday 24th June through to Monday the 28th June. The intension is to run out from 2 ferry ports as numbers require. One party from Hull to Rotterdam on Thurdasy night and the other from Dover to Calais. The Hull crossing is overnight both ways and the Dover crossing is daytime bothways. The Dover crossing involves some serious miles, 350 up to Assen and on the return 350 + the ride home, so its a long long day. The Hull crossing is some 140 miles from the hotel and the ride home is a next day ride as you will have an overnight crossing getting back to the UK on Tuesday and then having the ride home.

So thats the outline of the weekend, loads more info will be available in a few weeks, but the problem is that the hotel manager, Ruud, has told us the if we want to do a group booking of any reasonable numbers then the booking wil have to be pretty quick due to the popularity of the weekend.

Right then I'll cut to the chase. I have the names of those up for it from this years tour, so you need not reply to this thread. If anyone else is interested can you please email me on,

jon1100xx@aol.com

If you mail me this dose not mean that you are definatly committed. It is only to tell me that you have an interest in the thread.I will add you to a mailing list and as and when I have details will mail you back giving you a rough breakdown of cost's and travel details.
If you mail me can you give me your prefered crossing, either Hull or Dover.

Ok then, I look forward to hearing from you

Count me in Jon~~

I'll gladly lead the Hull-Rotterdam tour which will allow those peeps who want it a more scenic [but equally fast] ride through the Dutch Mountains!!

Take the "Dam" at 140+ - yeah yeah - but watch those tyres!!!

**UPDATE**

Buzz has called P & O Northsea ferries and has been given a figure of almost ?250.

This is for return crossing, cabin, one bike and two people.

This year the Dover crossing was ?53 return for bike and two people, The Ibis hotel in Calais, which was almost invisible :goofy: cost ?50 per room per couple with breakfast. The 300+ miles to Assen took just over 5 hours with about 4 stops for fuel due to a VTR being with us. The hotel in Appelscha was ?50 per doulble room incuding breakfast.

These costs are so you can compare costs of crossings and give you an idea which way you would like to do things. I have had mails from most of this years party confirming there interest, so anyone thinking about it mail me.

Well judging by that price off P & O

I should think Motorsport Travel will be doing it for at least ?80 cheaper, if our last crossing to Le Havre was anything to go by?
- rang P & O, ?229. Then immediately rang MST - ?149.

Exactly the same crossing, same reclining seats, same everything - except the price! Booking this far in advance, may even get a better deal still.

Would you Bl**dywell believe it

Fixed holidays Start June 5th and end June 20th.

I am trying to get Shift cover for the Bash at the end of May, so it is very unlikely that I'll be able to get cover fror Assen, but you never know. I'll try.

I'm trying Jon

Yeah, I know very trying.

Unfortunately, throwing a sickie is a no no. Being in a responsible position, I have to set a good example.
Responsible? Good example?
Good God, I've turned into My Dad.
At least I can be myself when not at work and play with motorbikes.
It's only Blackbirds and you lot that keep me sane. (plus a little help from the tablets)
EOSB is out unfortunately.
I've got a few favours to call on, so I'm working on 2004 Bash and your Assen trip.

Nine months notice of a ride might just be about right.

As Ken Dodd said " Ladies, when your feeling frisky, it's no good taking your man by surprise. It doesn't give him chance to think of anybody"

Just a short one as an email will be sent to all those on the mailing list in the next few days.

Calais has come out as the favoured option for the crossing. The next stage is to find a hotel for the Thursday night. It has been suggested that we move inland from Calais due to the cost of beer and very limmited choice of food/eateries.

Saint Omer has been mentioned as one possiblity, Ely has told me of a hotel 45 mins from the docks in a small village. Its a family owned hotel with the wife being English and her husband French. This year he paid 32 euro's for a room, 7 for breakie and the bar has adequate stocks of Boddingtons, Guinness as well a local brews. He is going to get me that address so distance can be sorted. As soon as I have some concrete info a mail will be sent out.

To date there are 10 bikes confirmed and another 6 in the wings.
