I personally have never tried to control my daughters, only guide them, they know that whatever advice I give I do with their best interests at heart, it is up to them if they choose to follow or ignore that advice, and I will stand by them whatever they decide.
As I have stated earlier if when either of my daughters were 16 they had come home and said they were dating a man of 34, I would have had serious words with the guy, and I would advise my daughters accordingly, there is no way on this earth I would disown them just because I didn't agree with their decision.

Exactly.

If you do the job right by the time they are 16 they are mature enough to ask.

I hope that good parents would understand and they are the ones that should act in a mature manner as well, although it would seem highly unlikly judging by some of the responses on here.
Just a thought do you have any children of your own and what age/ages are they ?

Not that having or not having any is at all relevent.

I have 2 sons, 22 and 28, both of whom encouraged me to do the job.

That sounds ok as long as you give him a chance and the serious words are not abusive and are the same ones you put to your Daughter.

It takes 2

In some ways I have a lot to thank my father for, It is the things I missed out on in my childhood that have made me a better parent, I don't hold anything against my father as there could be any number of reasons as to the way he was, but that was his life and he led it as he saw fit.

I am suprised you subscribe to a forum with so many immature people on it ?

Its that a professional opinion or a misinformed one ?

Baz (who has no problems at all being immature, I intend to stay that way as long as I can, its certainly not done my kids any harm)
