As the great and the good have spoken I will add my peneth as the stupid and gormless.
The first part of any enjoyment of something new is...have no expectations or think about it too much. The reason being is that you have to build up your confidence first then you will find things slot into place.
Secondly I would advise a track day, this helps with the confidence and most instructors know how to find the way it works for you.
I personally found at the begining that I put too much pressure through my hands/arms which caused some numbness in my right hand, then I tried supporting my weight against the tank with my knees and this took considerable pressure off my arms and allowed a more relaxed style.
Moving your body seemed to (in my mind anyway) allow me to think the centre of gravity was now more in tune with my bike/body this then allowed me to lean a bit more, good tyres help with the confidence also.I also tend to raise my foot slightly to what ever corner I am approaching so that foot is raised meaning the balls of my peg are on the corrosponding peg.
My last bit is a simple thing (as I am), don't feel the need to get your knee down , look at most road riders with the quickest (in generall) being the police and they rarely have to get thier knee down to make fast progress. It's like wheeling just because you can doesn't mean you have too, not all track styles transfer onto road effectively.
Do what you want, when you want, and how you want and if you still can't get your knee down but want grazed knee sliders...try an axle grinder
