And Morphgarth wonders why there is a lack of respect for the police.

a bit of an understatement:

'It was a really bad experience that you never think will happen to you. We couldn't sleep afterwards.'

If ya think about it, it must be a piece of piss to go mob handed and break into a house armed to the teeth and help yerself to anything, specially when ya read accounts like that.
The one's who live in big isolated detatched houses are more at risk. I should be fairly safe there then (as he checks the garage for signs of break inns)

The police probably run a skeleton staff on Tuesdays and only have a full complement on duty to deal with the binge drinking over the weekend... sadly it prob would have been the same result in the end :dunno:

Can't answer for Morphgarth but in my opinion it's probably because we're normally late, we normally don't give people the result they expect, and the odd tosser with an attitude gives us a bad name.

Why it like this? Wish I knew, when I started there were 25 PC's, 3 Sgt's, 1 dog handler and an inspector per relief, now we consider ourselves lucky if 6 PC's parade on, whilst local government continues to tell everyone that reducing crime is a priority they continue to give us figures and directives to follow that tie us up with paperwork for hours.

As I?ve said on here before most of the people I work with just want to get on with the job they joined to do, unfortunately it seems to be getting harder each day.

Just my opinion.

well SOME of us appreciate what the police do. But as I always say, it's all down to your own intellect ........ I had a theft here (in the arse end of knowehere) back in May last year; police caught the scuffers less than 2 hours later, banged 'em up, dozens of other cases taken into consideration including unprovable income for several years = loss of house, two cars crushed too, job done ....... result!!; 2 less scuffers, half a million to go .......... keep up the good work ......... :-0)

The job is as many other jobs are now, so long as it costs less than before, uses less staff, and the figures look good (or made to look good) then the Government don`t care. thats the bottom line.

stupid ones are us really. we want better service but don`t want to pay for it. We ought to wake up to the fact that it is the government thats ripping us off, and if we stopped it, we might fair better.

Anyone seen The star chamber (film). Police would get some results if they all joined that.

I challenge anyone to name government service thats run efficiently, and cost effectively. That will be hard.

must go now, someone wants to arrest me for treason :bang:

Chief Inspector Andy Burton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: 'On this occasion, the way control room staff dealt with this incident fell way short of the standard I expect.

So that would be EVERY occasion for the past 4 years then !

Control rooms are manned by civilians, who unlike the Police are allowed to make mistakes.......

One of neighbours and myself disturbed three youths/men trying to take another neighbours car. We folowed them in his van and kept the police informed of their whereabouts by mobile phone. We eventually lost them as they escaped over gardens. Three days later my neighbour gets a call from the police wanting to know what his van was doing driving up and down local side roads in the early hours. Someone had obviously reported seeing us but didn't they have any information regarding the reason we were there? Tossers, couldn't put two and two together if they had a calculator. And you police officers on here wonder why the public are pissed off with you.

We won't get better policing by putting more CSOs on the payroll will we.

As a side issue, the police section of my council tax has gone up over 45% in the last four years, in return for which 4 revenue cameras have been installed on the main road nearby.

To be fair, the unoccupied past-its-prime police car parked at the local petrol station is probably fairly cheap to rent.

Sounds familiar to me

When my elderly folks rang the police for help at 2.00 am one morning 'cos some scrote was trying to get into the house............... nobody turned up.

When the scrotebag finally gave up and fucked off my father got dressed and (stupidly) drove to the police station. It was shut. There was a sign on the door asking callers to pick up the phone which was on the wall........ it rang and rang but nobody answered it.

Not just your opinion, a friend of mine who is a serving police officer shares your sentiments. My concern is why are decent police officers reluctant to speak their minds to senior officers with a view to getting things changed. I expect their lives would be made difficult if they rocked the boat.

I expect it is like other public services, the managers being on bonuses for cost saving ideas regardless of the cost to the safety of the main stream workers this tends to give them the collective brain power of plankton & as long as they get their bonus then to hell with the majority

The buck stops at the top...... Government.

While we blame the police for any policing problems, which you'd expect... we tend to forget its government run.

Nuff said .

Now isn't it time the MP's had another pay rise/pension increase/expenses increase. Oh no lets introduce a new scam.... policing tax, It'll run nicely along side green fuel tax.

I think there is one govt. department that runs OK .... it's the "MPs noses in the trough dept" ........

As for the run-of-mill police officer complaining .... that's "managed" by senior officers using personal performance measures for annual review ... the result is that it grinds out the very behaviour you'd like to see......

It's the same in many large organisations these days ...... the middle/senior managers don't dare rock the boat as it might affect their positions/increments - so they use the appraisal system to ensure the behaviours they want.

When I joined the Prison service all prisoners were known by their number & their surname & they called us Mr or boss etc now we have the numbers & are expected to call prisoners Mr or by their first name [yeah like I'm ever going to do that]

Prisoners had to wear prison clothing unless they were on remand & we were allowed to wear civilian coats now we are not allowed to take civilian clothing into the prison yet prisoners walk round in their own clothes

we were allowed to use metal cutlery in our tea room whereas prisoners could only use plastic cutlery & cups now we have to use plastic utensils while prisoners are allowed china cups

we used to carry small penknives to pierce plastic containers to prevent prisoners from making hooch in them now we are no longer allowed them but prisoners are allowed hobby knives

We are now subject to searches when we enter or leave the prison whereas only ten percent of prisoners are searched on leaving the wings

We used to place prisoners on report if they were caught in a compromising position now the Prison are issuing them with condoms condoning what is still an illegal act

I can't wait for Monday when I start my new job in the kitchen.
