In all seriousness Derek, the buildings were virtually black on the main road. I can see where they are coming from.
Buildings were black on roads of heavy traffic before diesel became popular, I can remember in the late 60’s & early 70’s a major clean up in Leeds city centre, buildings being sandblasted clean, if you dont want traffic muck on your house then don’t buy one on a main road.

I would say the 330i is a better comparison?
Then you'd be wrong. The 330i is actually a two litre, whereas the 330d is still a three litre albeit single turbo.

The comparison between the 335d and 340i works because they are both six cylinder, three litre, twin-turbo motors.

Corrected for you, Dezza :p

Unfortunately they also sound like a train and leave a coating of fuel residue over the planet.

While in Bath last week I was interested to see a campaign to ban diesels due to the damage they are causing to ''Cotswold stone' buildings. It is quite scary.
Surely that's down to the pillock that thought Cotswold or Bath stone were durable building products. They soak up pollution like a sponge and start to dissolve when it rains. Although that might be down to the acid rain you allege is produced by my diesel.

That's a bit like saying 'it's not the burglar's fault as they left a window open'.

No it's not. The burglar has a choice. I have to drive a diesel. Come the revolution all petrol engines will be banned unless they are in a motorcycle. You need very little torque to propel one of those so petrol engines are ideal.

Looks like you are trying (and failing) to get your defence in before I ask the obvious question.....If diesels are so great why aren't they used in motorcycles and F1?

Why don't you have a choice in petrol or diesel? Everyone has a choice.

The bigger question is - why does anybody need 6 cylinders?

You don't need any torque as motorcycles are so light. And F1 isn't racing. It's just a procession of pretty cars following each other round and round. Le Mans is proper racing.

You may be forgetting the size of some of the (ahem) gentlemen on here, big lumps of torque may be needed to overcome the weight issue ........................ Andy said :D
