And another thing, if its such an issue about helmets hiding ID then why did ALL of us coming back into ENGLAND from France not have to remove our lids at passport control :dunno: :dunno: ..

Not a good example Mr Angry from Manchester..... we all know it is open slather for inbound traffic to the UKc7u8 c7u8

Actually that is a hard one to call Skippy..
What came first, the abuse bikers in the UK have had to put up with for the past 50 years or the mule headedness of said bikers caused by the abuse ..

We are, and have been, in a long continuing spiral..

I know exactly where your coming from John, I lived up in Tailgators area (Queensland) for a number of years under one of the most opressive regimes ever to be in power in a supposedly democratic country and suffered the full brunt of descrimination, hatred and the blatant abuse of police power towards the bike scene, in a lot of ways a very similar situation.

Whatever the reasons for this downward spiral the cycle has got to be broken because at the end of the day if it continues they will win there is just not enough of us, we need to find a different tack.
Right or wrong we are judged by our actions and our attitudes.

Imagine you are the (usually) woman sat in the kiosk taking the money, you see a hooded youth or someone in a baseball cap, you can usually still see the facial features, and can often tell someones mood by facial expressions.
Now imagine you see a Motorcyclist coming towards you with his helmet on, no facial features no way of ascertaining his mood, primeaval survival instinct kicks in, she is now thinking what do I do? is he friendly or hostile, would you want your wife/girlfriend to panic every time she had to deal with a Motorcyclist?

I agree with your point regarding muslim women in their bhurkas, unfortunately we are back to the racial issue ie scared to make a stand.

Unfortunatly it's not a racial question but a religious one .............

Religious beliefs should never be allowed to overide the laws of state, no exceptions period.

Thought a female bikers view would be worth

putting down here. I never remove my helmet when paying for petrol, have never been asked to either. I can see where this is going to go whilst I am writing it. Damn put my foot in it again!!!!

If I am pillion I more often than not will go in and pay, never remove my helmet.

To be honest I would stand my ground if I were asked to aswell. Especially in the winter time when I have spent ages getting all the little bits of clothing tucked in, to stop the draughts, got my ear plugs comfortable. I will lift my visor, or otherwise I cannot see with all the steaming up!!!! I take my gloves off as I cannot get to my money or sign with them on.

In the summer, usually if its hot, I will take off my helmet, but not for anyone else!!!!!

On the subject of passport control. The only time that Derek and I have been asked to remove our helmets has been when they have pulled us out of a queue at random to do a quick search. That has happened about twice. They are not interested either going out of this country to another or back into this country.

having read all the bits and bobs here ,what it boils down to is its tesco,s property if they put up a sign saying that only drivers of pink lada,s can have petrol then its up to them ,even if takings are down

What you could do to wind them up is to wear a slik type balaclava underneath the helmet then when you take off yer lid they still cant tell who you are, perhaps we should go en mass to the offending petrol station, ALL fill bikes up and ALL go in fully kitted up :} :} :} :} man8um

on a slightly different tack................

............our local garage tried to impose a 'get off your bike before filling' policy.

They soon backed down when no-one took a blind bit of notice. I was asked once, after I'd filled up, if in future I would dismount before filling. 'Why ?'' says I - 'Safety' 'How come you weren't so concerned for my safety today then ?'

I can't possibly overfill my tank on the side stand, I need it fully upright for that [LOL] and it's more dangerous anyway cos I can't see how full it is when filling. So 'No' I wouldn't be getting off in future. If a spill should occur and ignite - I assured spotty manager [20 stone - conservative est] that I would be first off the forecourt !!!

On the helmet point - I've been asked before and have politely refused on the grounds I can't be arsed what with wearing specs, buff, plugs etc etc and that no other customers are asked to disrobe. If, however, thay find my money unacceptable I'm happy to leave and send them a cheque - they invariably take payment...............just keep doing it, they'll soon give up.

I would urge you to tell the staff at Sainsburys tio check with their head office ..
This rule was in force for about 3 months more than 2 years ago.
How were they convinced to drop it ?
It was pointed out tha many bikes do not have centre stands and as such could only be filled up properly when sat on and held upright..
Insisting on people getting off the bike meant they were losing money..
They resinded the rule almost immidiately that was pointed out :p !!

Duncan, I think you will find you are wrong mate.
The rules governing the sale of fuels are quite strict.

Just thought of an interesting tac one might take.

Given that the rules concerning small print, displayed signs etc have now changed ( for once in favour of the punter ) you could actually say that Tescos are breaking a contract they have with you to sell you fuel.

They, and indeed you, enter into a contract ( I believe the leagl term is a contract of intent ? ) the moment you pull the trigger on the pump.
Unless someone has pointed out to you the 'clause' in their contract ( that you have gotta remove your hat ) then they are changing or altering a contract without disclosure of said clause to all parties who have entered into the contract.

Now then members of the barrack room bar, what do our learned colleagues say to that premis ?

M'Lud............

.............I would agree. In order for the removal of headress prior to paying to be a condition of sale it would have to be clear before the contract was made ie. a sign on the forecourt as you enter.

As is, there is an implied contract of sale to allcomers as the owners allow access to their private land and for customers to draw fuel. There are invariably signs that tell a customer that the fuel has to be paid for, what payment methods are acceptable, and the rules and regs ie no smoking, proper containers, no mobiles etc etc - nothing relating to clothing to be worn.

For the record, I would ban anything that could be remotely linked to Chavs - these are far more likely to form a significant threat to any law abiding business than any scabby, scruffy, helmeted biker !! LOL
