Anti Motorcycle TESCO store

RHINO

Answering to nobody
I have just received an e-mail from TESCO,, check it out..

Thank you for your email.

We have recently experienced some technical difficulties with our email system
which may result in some of our customers receiving duplicate replies.

If we have previously replied to your enquiry, please ignore this response and
accept our apologies.

I am sorry that you were unhappy at being asked to remove your crash helmet
before entering our store.

This policy was implemented following criminal incidents involving people
wearing crash helmets. We have CCTV systems to assist in crime prevention, but
these are useless if we are unable to record faces. I can assure you that we do
have signs displayed in both our stores and petrol stations, advising people of
this policy.

I do appreciate the inconvenience this has caused you, however, I hope you will
now understand the important reason behind this decision.

If you have any further queries do not hesitate to contact us at
customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting TES189844X.

Regards

I totally agree with Rhino on this one and will deliberately keep my helmet on if I enter a garage or shop with a sign saying remove them, even if I had intended taking it off to buy a choccie bar or summat - I do make a point of walking in carrying my wallet open ready for payment, as opposed to a sawn off

If I was a baddie and I intended robbing a store/petrol station etc and there was a sign saying 'please remove helmets' am I going to say "bugger, no good robbing this store as I have to take me lid off" :xm

It's a load of crap, is dicriminatory against bikers and criminalises us. I cannot see what good a sign would do to prevent a robbery if it was going to happen :dunno:

Well done to Rhino for taking it further

is this "please remove your helmet"policy supposed to be a national one with tesco :dunno: i fill up at their store in neath abbey, and always keep my helmet on,and never, ever been asked to remove it.should i ever be asked to,then i would no longer give them my custom again!!!!!!!!!

again as with rhino,i agree whole-heartedly.

I have just sent the following to customer.service@tesco.co.uk

I would urge you all to send something similar.. Also, if you are on any other forum please post all this info on there as well.
Motorcyclists in this country have been treated like low class scum since the 50's. It really is about time more folk made a stand and this sort of thing is an ideal platform from which to voice an opinion.

Sir,
I find it extremely offensive that you should consider myself and my staff as potential criminals because we wear crash helmets.

Further, as a motorcyclist I am one of a minority group.
Your signs say you do not discriminate.. Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain why a youth wearing a hood should be served while a perfectly legitimate customer should be refused, purely because he is wearing a helmet that IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT in the UK if you ride a motorcycle. ?

I would also like to have your reasoning overall, as if I was a robber and wanted to rob a petrol station, do you honestly think I would read the sign, and say 'damn, best go rob somewhere else as I am going to have to take my helmet off if I rob this place'.

I look forward to your explantion(s)

In the meantime my staff and their families will all be boycotting Tesco's. ( probably a revenue loss around ?2000 a week.. a small amount, but given the strength of feeling over this issue among the motorcycle fraternity hopefully that figure will grow in the coming weeks.

Oh and as an aside, whilst the saying goes 'there is no such thing as bad press' I would watch some of the national news papers over the coming weeks to see if the saying is true or not.

Yeah but Stan I think they're making you a special case m8
far more frightening with the lid off.

As for pulling your helmet off you could always state you'd done that already and very nice it was too.

Maybe the nice sexy young assistant would like to give you hand

Apologies if this had been said previously but say the assistant asks you to remove your helmet when you are stood there in the queue with wallet in hand and you refuse, just what exactly are they going to do, refuse to take your money ?

They cant really do anything as no law is being broken ?

I do however take my lid off when I go into a bank:lol:

Stan I wear a dark visor so the pretty young assistant looks and thinks ooooooooooooooo sexy bike bet the rider's lol. If I took my helmet off or wore a clear visor I'd shatter her illusion and ruin the poor girls day.

Ian, since when do people with ANY brain, let alone 1/2 of one, work at Tesco's ?
It is the fast food court of the supermarket world !
