Went to put fuel in the car today and there was a notice on the kiosk window stating

"MOTORCYCLIST TO REMOVE HELMETS BEFORE ENTERING THE STORE TO PAY"

I have sent them a snotty e-mail venting my disgust and claiming that if i were a Muslim female wearing face covering that they would NOT DARE request it to be removed so why pick on us for wearing safety gear :dunno: :dunno:

I have told them that until the sign is removed that I for one will not shop there :bandit: :bandit: . I have also asked WHY the sign is there and to what they are implying with it, i cannot wait for the answer.

the easy answer you will get is...they cant hear you propley through the helmet and a face mask doesnt affect it...just a way of covering there arses i guess
speaking of which...had one behind me in some old banger nissan the other night..you know the type..rust everywere not road legal etc etc..one thing that struck me whist looking at her in my mirror at the lights is....the tiny ferking slit they look out of would be well illegal if it was a lid..ALSO if the material shifts or falls while she was driving and the TINY slit shifts postion she aint gonna see ferk all
observation over..

For exactly the same reason banks require you to remove your helmet whilst inside .............. being of the plod persuasion I'd have thought you would be right on to that one :dunno:

I work (indirectly) for Tesco, and shall make enquiries. I personally always remove my lid in garages etc, (my Mum used to work in a building society, and the fear was tangible when someone came in wearing a lid (it's not about being a biker, it's just that a lid is a great cover for a criminal), but I shall ask about other face coverings (such as the Muslim 'burka').

Rhino,

Can you give me details (ideally the address) of the Tesco store involved?

Cheers,

Nick.

Rhino,

Which Tesco mate? I buy my juice from Morrisons on Chorley Old Road, Bolton and the pretty lass who is [usually] behind the counter gives a gleaming white smile and says "Pump 2*" [* choose a number]. :dunno:

I don't think the lid is the giveaway [I've checked my flies!] but the fact I'm the only customer buying less than 15 litres!

It really is about time Tescos was boycotted by just about every fecker with any morals at all.

in the past 12 months they have demanded poppy day sellers move on ( saying they were taking away trade for god sake ! )
They have banned all activitys in their car parks that are charity related
The list goes on and on..
Me, I refuse to remove my helmet unless entering a bank or post office.
I profer the money in cash and ask for a witness to prove I have tyried to pay for the fuel. if it it still refused I place one of my cards on the desk and walk out. And just sit by a pump.. Sooner or later a 'manager' ( read spotty face jumped up wanker ) will appear and explain that if I wish to pay I must remove my helmet.. Nooooooooo.. if YOU wish me to pay you will accept my payment. If you refuse then I have done what I can and you have refused payment.. see me in court and see how far you get..
Its a pointless pathetic excercise I know but I have yet to have to take my hat off :p

Oh, and as a by the by, does anyone know if there is still a bash hat ban in Lakeside or Bluewater shopping centres ?
There was, but I seem to remember there was so much hoo har raised it was dropped.

Last bit...
Tip for you if you really wanna make the point with Tesco's.
Tell them that as a member of BUURD you are forbiden by the temple fathers to remove your head gear in public and you fear for you immortal soul.

Suddenly you are a member of a minority group and as such have very specific rights.

My nearest petrol station has never asked me to remove my helmet. They already have my license plate and bank card, it's not like I keep my dark visor down either.
There's enough of them to take your custom elsewhere I think.

Its nothing like a bank or building society, its a PETROL STATION.......
I pull up, get off, fill up and go inside to pay...!
If i have to remove my helmet then i'll have to remove by balaclava and my ear plugs will be disturbed, i will then have to take off my gloves and fanny about for another 5 minutes trying to get sorted out...
Banning helmets is stereo typing us all, if i was gonna ROBB them i wouldn't park up infront of the cameras for 10 mins while i put fuel in the bike, i would have fueled up previously and then continued to the TESCO store where i would park out of the way of a camera and quickly run in, ROBB them and then run out, thereby leaving less clues for the cops!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SKIPPY, being a cop makes me right on that one as you put it..
When was the last time you heard of a robbery committed by a motorcyclist who first filled up then walked in and robbed them?? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not recently, BUT they do get robbed by scrotey chavs with hoods up and scarves over their faces but theres no sign saying " NO CHAV SCROTES ALLOWED "..
I'm going down today to speak to the boss there and explain the situation.
My next move is to have a bike at every pump and not move until they shift the sign,, i think that will upset the apple cart.
You will find that due to it being a privately owned company that the cops cannot move us either, only advise us to move..

You can always try to pay through their "night window".If they indicate that its not open ,then go inside with your skid lid on.Who would rob a garage in the daylight using the "nightwindow" when the main door is open? :dunno:

I've never been asked to take my lid off but suppose it's only a question of time.
I'd love to see a load of bikers pull onto a forecourt at one of these stations then when asked to remove they're helmets one by one they could take they're time slowly removing gloves, unbuckling the lid, removing earplugs, etc
It would soon piss em off prolly wouldn't cause a change in policy but it would be fun anyway.

Update..........

Been to the the store this morning and spoken to a manager there, i explained a few points and his response was.
"You'll find most robberies are carried out by motorcyclists wearing helmets"

I was amazed at this comment and asked him to prove this, he could not prove it and started to back pedal. I asked him why there was NO ban on people wearing baseball caps, hoods, scarves, birkas etc,, he could not give a reason for this.
He did however comment on the fact that a MUSLIM woman would not ROBB the petrol station!!!!!!!
"NO" i said, " Fair enough it hasn't happened yet but they have been known to blow themselves up in shopping mals and on aircraft etc"
"And also NO motorcyclists have robbed their store yet either"

I explained to the manager that it was wrong and contradicted their 'Customer Policy' which is a non DESCRIMINATORY one. I told him that he was putting us all in the same box and in effect calling us all potential robbers.. The manager gave me the details of head office and requested that i contact them to voice this concern as HE himself began to understand our plight.
The number is 0800 5055555

Just another angle on this, in a lot of local corner shops they have a policy of only two schoolchildren at a time, the reason being because sometimes you get a load of school kids crowding in you cannot keep an eye on all of them all the time and sometimes they come with the intention to steal sweets etc, so in the two children only rule these shopkeepers are branding all school kids as untrustworthy,
Tesco's is a multi national company and whilst one particular store/petrol station may not have been targeted by helmet wearing robbers, others definitely have, so as they say prevention is better than cure.
Whenever a company like Tesco's is targetted for a major robbery, there is only so much profit they are prepared to stand and therefore prices alter to repay the deficits, so for instance two stores in London and one in the Midlands get hit everybody is affected as Tesco's hike their prices up.
My wife's uncle owns a petrol station in Leeds and he informs us that his profit from petrol works out at around one penny per gallon, any losses he deducts from wages.

I was asked at Tesco Coventry by the Science park to remove my helmet, that was the last time I stepped on Tesco land!
I do not even have to remove my helmet at HM customs shed when showing my UK passport.
Had the sign been on the pump I would have just ridden off.

DK,
BAN EVERYONE then,, everyone has the potential to do it, car drivers have robbed them, cyclists have done it, women have done it.....

I have just spoken to head office and a gentleman called 'JUAN' on extention 56427 said it was because MOST ROBBERIES are carried out by helmet wearing individuals, i asked him to povide proof of this and he declined.. :dunno:
I said that in that case the Securicor man should be banned from wearing his helmet because ASDA was done over by a guy wearing Securicor uniform and took ?80,000........... its all bollox..
The scrote with his hood up and an imitation handgun will cause most of the robbery......I KNOW this to be true as i have been involved in a department where this was analyzed last year.
The offender profile for ARMED robbery is ;

MALE
25-35yrs
Medium build
Dark clothing without logos
Hooded

That description aint us.....................

The customer services manager 'JUAN' is going to pass on the concerns to the relevant body for a re think...
A step forward in the right direction i think.

Jan & I got funny looks when we arrive in CUxhave the first time we went to Germany for the German Bash... The Police & Customs officials gave me some very funny looks when I offered our passports for examination....

Then realised we had our helmets on & our iridium visors closed c7u8 Ooooops !!

Still they let us in...

On the TESCO front, I always fill the bike up at Sainsburys, as I have never been asked to remove my helmet to pay... But I do always have either my payment card, or the cash in my hand at the time...

Best wishes,

Rolfy

My point was that the sign is too specific, it doesn't ask for headwear to be removed or face coverings to be removed as it would upset the Ethnic Majorities c7u8 dohh sorry, Minorities ie Rastafarian (headwear), Sihk (headwear) and Muslim (face covering) but instead they SPECIFY helmets which i personally feel is descriminatory..
The security cameras they have in place would make it idiotic for someone to try anyway, 16 colour cameras under the forecourt canopy alone + 4 in the kiosk.
