He is a fan of them if they are being used for the correct purpose, TOURING...........quickly..
You wouldn't buy a Ford Mondeo and spend thousands modifying it so it would keep up on a track with a Lotus Elise when for less than the cost of the mods you could have bought an Elise in the 1st instance.
Well, there are some people stupid enough...ME....
I have spent considerably more on modifications to my Bird than it would have cost me to buy a brand new gixxer 1000, Hayabusa or ZX12 (or ZX14), this doesn't include the cost of the original bike.
I have done this for fun, and because I wanted something different. I knew 100% finacially would never even get half my money back when it was sold... It is fun for me to have people on genuinely quick bikes surprised that "an old barge" easily keeps up with them, and infact goes by quite regularly.
Ofcourse, I would have been more sensible throwing money at a more dedicated race bike in the first place... But then, it just looks like a faster race bike...and wheres the fun in that?
I get the "What the Hell is that...?" brigade trying to work out what it is (even though still has same tail piece, headlight and XXX on the side..)
To be fair, even I wouldn't do it to a Mondeo, as they are shit and boring in the first place, I did however spend a huge amount modifying a SAAB 9000 turbo, keeping it front wheel drive. This would have been lost on a track by the crappy Lotus too, but on everyday roads I could easily outrun them...
Still, each to their own, but everyone needs to realise there are some idiots with no sense of what is sensible, or good value... Just enjoy the fun factor and seeing peoples faces when they say.... "You have done what....? To... What....?
