I've got an LG. Make sure on your settings that you have "tru-motion" enabled because that smooths out the motion and makes the footy much more watchable. A tv that has a refresh rate of 100 Mhz is also better for action. I spotted a Panasonic recently with 600Mhz.

Steve - I really hope you're right! I believe that the UK were late in their decision to plump for the DVB-T2 / MPEG 4 standard for DTT high def transmission and as such we're the first in the world to adopt it. B&O's inbuilt or optional DVB-HD receiver will work in some countries for sure with their DTT transmissions, but when B&O designed their latest range, did they know that the UK would be the only ones using DVB-T2? As the UK is their biggest market nowadays you'd hope so - there are plenty of people with 12K sets out there who understandably want guarantees that it'll work in the UK

The DVB-HD receiver in the B&O sets definitely works as a FreeSat tuner

DVB-T2 is being tested now, and it's coming off of the Winter Hill transmitter into Manchester, and Crystal Palace into parts of London as of a couple of days ago

Fingers crossed for you

42" Hitachi LCD. Great picture for an Argos buy, and hooking a decent PC graphics card up to the HDMI port is well worth it for quality - films, games, etc.

You seem more knowledgeable on these things than me Samster. I was assured by my local dealer that the tuner will be compatible with Freeview HD in the UK and they've not told me a lie yet. A couple of years ago they also told me there were no plans to shelve VHF radio and so far they seem to be right. I purchased my TV in May so there'll be merry hell to play if they've sold me a dud.

It's interesting what you say about their HD receiver being Freesat-compatible - I think I might give them a call about that and see if I can ditch Sky. I'm only keeping it going so SWMBO can watch House. Maybe if I promise to buy the box set she'll let me cancel the subscription.

On a serious note..................

Thought about it long and hard and decided yes, it is a lot of wonga to shell out and if the bloody telly cannot perform then sod it, they can have it back and I will get something that can do the job

Soooooooooooooooooo

Called Comet and by the cringe, what fantastic people to deal with ..
Def 100% got my recomendation !

Took details and said they would fone back .. less than 5 minutes and yup.. Service centre calls back

Lady took more details and patched an engineer in to the conversation.

really sorry.. def fault. should not do it,,, dunno who said that model does it but they are wrong and out of order for misleading you etc etc

I was left with the follwoing impressions

I am dealing with honest people

I felt more than just 'another bloody customer'

I felt I was talking to people who not only cared but knew what they were on about

I was offered a choice of dates for an engineer to call

All in all very pleased and also pleased I posted on here to get folks opinions

It was you lot that decided me to take action, so thank you one and all !

just signed up to british gas energy smart that gives graphical representation of energy use. noticeable that since my sony LCD replaced the big old CRT there has been a significant drop in leccy use on a month by month basis. I'm sure a plasma would be better as well but not as significant.

Couple of months ago I bought woman a 50" plasma for her birthday
It replaced a 32" CRT type.
Both units were rated at the same wattage

If you have the AV system, an all-in-one remote (Harmony One) saves me plenty of power. The "off" button turns off everything - AMP, DVD / PS3 / SAT. I used to leave those on all the time rather than hunt for all the remotes.

I have cunningly got all the AV stuff hooked up t the same powerpoint so one flick of the switch turns everything off except Sky +

I understand that a lot of this stuff uses nearly as much juice on standby as when being used.:dunno:

wasting power, stand-by versus the real power eaters

my TV uses 4 watts on standby, which is sweet FA. I have a couple of rechargers on full time for plugging in the MacBooks, they draw around 12w even when charging. Most of the wasted juice goes on fridges, forget the odd standard bulb here and there, get the fridges turned down for real savings, along with boiling small amounts of water rather than a full kettle ......

My big bugger in the living room went futt and I bought a replacement from Comet.
It is a 42" LCD jobby by LG that was on special offer ( ?420, no deposit and nowt to pay till next year which is bloody handy at the moment ! )

But !!!

What a pile of poo it has turned out to be.
98% of the time it is great, but if there is any real big fast action it goes all blockey ( like a freeview digi box with a duff signal )

Dont think you really read all the post :p
In general you do not get a bad signal up an HDMI or blueray cable ! ( and I have about 10mV coming down the antenna !! The terestrial signal is massive !! )

But !
The fact you say you get great pics does give me hope that they will be able to sort out my issue, and for that bit of info I thank you
