The corner cut out purpose is twofold;
and no cables involved, they all exit the wall under the cover.
- Acknowledging the fact that there is no way a totally snug right angle in the corner is going to fit neatly and will probably damage the wallpaper when being put in and taken out
- somewhere to put a few fingers in to lift the thing out when needed
- a bit of ventilation for the five electrical devices under the cover

Although I put in two tiers, one for the TV
and the bottom one for his amp and speakers.
Double ply and some beading on the edge
to finish off + 3 coats of varnish.

pps yes I know I need to Hoover the top of the skirting board as the dust from drilling into the walls is still there
