**** UPDATE ****

Been to local HONDA dealers this morning armed with digital images of damage sustained. Having spent several hours in the garage checking the vital parts etc and the extent is as follows.
1) Brake caliper bolt 2.70
2) Brake pad set 24.88
3) Front fender 98.35
4) Front wheel 311.65
5) Front caliper N/S 504.90
6) Front brake disc N/S 185.94
7) Recovery from home to dealer 20.00
8) Labour 114.00
Total cost from HONDA 1483.34

Paul (tyre fitter) called me as promised this morning and was still very shocked
at what had occured but he seems very genuine.
Paul has been told the extent of the damage and the cost to replace the parts, soon after the conversation i received a second call from him where upon he told me he had ordered the parts from HONDA himself and i would have them by middle of next week.
I cannot ask for anymore than this, the guy is pulling his weight and correcting the problem.
I shall sit with baited breath until next week and see what comes...........
Top marks for his efforts in putting right this unfortunate series of events so far. :yo:

Shit, not good!

I had the same thing happen a year ago, new front tyre fitted, rode back to Ireland in the middle of the night, one mile from my folks house (arse end of nowhere 8ree! ) and noticed something was wrong stopped and found the two bolts had dropped out of the RH calliper :bang: , it was only held on by the hose luckily I managed to ride the rest of the way with out using the brakes however it did make a mess of my wheel rim. I think your experience would have shit me up good and proper.
Glad your both OK
Regards
Davey

Worse....

Lot less expensive than re-building

a Rhino and an Emma

Watch out

for the photo's tomorrow evening of the BB minus brakes.......

The situation was that the caliper came free from the bottom of the n/s fork leg and swung back into the wheel rim this in-turn caused the actuating rod for the rear linked brake to be activated and then it automatically slammed on front and rear.. I was doing no more than a walking pace and managed to keep us both up. I pulled the bike back which moved the caliper off the rim and then got the bike off the A17.
The brake lever felt like it had come back against the bars as the pistons in the caliper N/S had no resistance...the edge of the pads were completely off the disc and a big chunk of lining was ripped off.
As Clive says, better to check it yourself in hindsight however who am i to check the work of a professional, i mean, the missing bolt did'nt even need to be removed to get the wheel out....only the offside caliper needs to come off and then there is clearance. Oh well it's a learning curve innit. :bang:

BIG THANKS

To Paul the tyre fitter who kept his word and promised to replace any damaged parts....
Today i had delivered from HONDA 1x front fender and 2x sets of brake pads direct to my door

Just awaiting a replacement front rim and caliper (on order)

I know it was Paul( or the monkey working with him)who caused the damage but there was no question or messing about and that in these modern times takes some doing..........well done..

Good to hear that, Rhino !!!!

It's no secret that Paul Robbo is a mate of mine and I've always found him to be a top-class bloke. Employing that cowboy (the other Paul) could destroy the credibility he's worked hard to build up and it's nice to know that he's done the right thing by you.

Keep us up to date on the other bit's, Mate.

yep rhino, fuckups do happen, people getting out of their way to sort it is a much rarer thing those days... glad your vehicle of choice is going to be back on the road soon... thing is, where did it fit the tyres on it in the first place???

SUPA

I have no problem at all with him...........mistakes happen..........if he was a knob when i spoke to him i may have reacted differently but he's genuinely remorsefull at the events that took place and i won't hessitate to use him again if the need arrises.

He has a good set up and i truly hope that there are no negative vibes toward his competence in the future.
PS, hope the Mrs is feeling better after her enduro riding...

Paul is offering another service he spoke to me about:
you get your bike to him, leave her to him for one day, he gets both your wheels polished, painted the colour you want (and possibly including flip/flop colours but has to be confirmed), new bearings, the lot for ?200 - not too shabby eh? Might do that when mister taxman stop stalking me...
