In the News So where was she really from?

Can't remember....

I saw an interview on Facebook of someone who was present. It was interesting but I'm sure I'll be told it's anti British if I post it.

It covers a lot, including issues at London fire service. It's about 17 minutes.

An issue I've always had that people jump to conclusions. Because I make a point doesn't necessarily mean that this is my view or what I believe in. People should have both sides
But people should be able to make a point without being jumped on.

Farage is brill in my book, says exactly what people are thinking. Maybe too right wing for some, but he backs it up
with actual facts.

FACT.

Eh?
Where on earth did you get that from??

from what was reported in the media LadynWosserface was totally questioning ‘where are you really from?’ Despite having already been told the other party was British.

I am fully aware that you are making controversial comments to get clicks.

Fact.
No, I'm not making controversial comments to get clicks (how the eff do you work that out?). This is Bird, not instagram or faecebook, you silly man.

British is her nationality, assuming she was born here, but asking where she's from relates to her ethnicity. I do not see a problem with that and neither should you. Stop being such a woke pansy.

I wouldn't be with Farage on anything
I'm not a fan of Farage....anyone who gets as cosy as he did with Trump isn't to be trusted....but on this I do think he has a point.

Putting aside the crap she's spouted online about the Royal Family, MeAgain and BLM....
There are a number of videos and references online that indicate that she only dresses like she did that day when she's in front of a camera. There is also the question of her absolute verbatim recall of the conversation. Over the years I've met and conversed with a handful of famous people at events and I struggle to remember the exact conversations. And then there is the question of why she (real name - Marlene Headley) "adopted" an African name when her family originates from the Caribbean. This woman went to this event prepped to create controversy.

Personally I think she should be outed for cultural appropriation.

But she is from Britain!

You really miss the point of what the issue was, whether you agree with it or not.

Thank you for informing me I am a ‘woke pansy’.

I‘ll bear that in mind.

I think you mean cultural misappropriation, but I take your point.

I'd go a step further and call her racist. Why is she dressing like a person of African origin when her descendants are from the Caribbean? Didn't someone of note get accused of racism recently for adopting a certain attire or do I have my wires crossed?

No, I do not miss the point. She was asked where she was from. She responded that she was British, fair enough, but when the question was repeated, anyone with half of one brain cell would have known full well what the Lady in Waiting meant. Further, I suspect that the question would have been elaborated in order to make it clear but she continued her track in order to accuse someone of being racist. As has been said above, she knew exactly what she was doing.

If there's one thing worse than a racist, it's someone who looks for racial prejudice where none exists.

This woman is a trouble maker, nothing more.

I note you take no issue with being called a silly man. I'll bear that in mind.

I think you do miss the point of what caused the storm in a teacup in the first place.

anyway, As I said early in the thread the tenor of the questioning as reported is more likely to come from the elder elements of our society; it probably wasn’t deliberately provocative but from the sound of it maybe - probably - naive, an old fashioned attitude from a lady who probably hadn’t seen anything other than white skin during her formative years. The world has moved on quite a lot during our lifetimes.

I would be quite surprised if said elderly lady, occupying the position that she does, has not moved with the times and taken the time to educate herself. We have (some more than others but we are all too aware of the current cultural climate) so i would suspect that she has, too.

As I said, this woman is a trouble maker. She wouldn't have made such a stink over nothing otherwise.

I’m not sure I agree - my mum hasn’t got a nasty bone in her body but occasionally comes out with something that makes me cringe. Best one was talking about homosexual men and saying it is like being an albino.

I have given up explaining why I cringe….different times, different cultures. But no deliberate malice.

With much respect to Ma Beaker, unless she is person of note (by that, I mean some form of dignitary) then I'm not sure the same rules apply. However, I do not think it unreasonable to suggest that the Lady in Waiting would be quite foolish to not keep abreast with events of the times.

Fair enough.

Regardless of where she was born, it was obviously somewhere that grew ugly trees that she fell out of and hit a load of branches on the way down.

I can't help but imagine:

Elderly "plummy speaking" person starts a conversation along the lines of

Hello, nice to meet you, and you are?

Oh, that's interesting, are you one of the Dorset Bassington-Smyths then?

Oh, your not, so where are your people from?

More like…

“Oh, you run a charity”

“You’re the only member of this charity”

“You paid yourself how much?”

“Where the fuck are you really from?”
