Fair enough you dont like smoking but what about the people who dont like bikes, drinking , 4 x 4 s whatever do we stop them all from being carried out freely.

More people die through smoking related illnesses than bike related accidents
And what about alcohol related illnesses or violent acts ?
do we have a sliding scale of what does most damage and ban
them one by one ?

i dont get your angle on this, your compairing motoring to smoking ! im not sure you can put anything in the same catagory as smoking apart from drugs......

The angle is the restrictions you want place on another persons freedom to do something going off your own beliefs ,i'm not saying you are right or wrong in those beliefs but where does it stop?

why the feck should you have to ask if it is a smoking enviroment when looking for a job.......?......
why the feck do you think that an employer owes you a living under your terms and conditions...
It is his buiseness that he has created from his blood sweat and tears not yours ... if its in a smoking enviroment or not is irrelevent, what is relevent tho is wether you choose to work for him or not, or wether he chooses to employ you or not...

The freedom of choice is the issue here not the shite disguising it...

A perfect example of my policing question...
we went to watch a Walter Trout concert at the Sherwood rooms nottingham the other month... ?15 a ticket, packed out seedy little dive..
On arrival it was found that Walter had dictated that it was 'no smoking' night.. 300+ people crammed in like beans in a sardine can.. within half an hour you could see people lighting up in differant parts of the room ..
I said to bouncer.. I thought it was a non smoking night ?? he said it is, looking through the plooms of smoke towards the stage.. I asked him what he was going to do about it ?? nothing, it will cause a riot..wtf.
Do I walk out and miss the show ??? report them to the police and demand the place is shut down ?? either way I lose.. no more concert..
Whats ironic as well is, I asked why it wasnt advertised that it was a non smoking event and people would have known in advance and could have had the choice.. His reply.. because there would be no f**ker here !!!

It should have been stated on the tickets or adverts that it was a non smoking event and people would have had the choice.. but it wasnt, and now I know why ...

so how should it have been policed ??

Your argument is so outdated and outmoded it's laughable! It simply doesn't hold water.

This ban doesn't devoid anybody of their freedom or rights. It doesn't tell anybody to stop smoking.

If you read thru this thread from the start you'll see that this legislation is to protect the working person from the dangers of smoking, and the employers from the ensuing compensation claims from those employees made ill from the smoke concentrated in the affected enclosed places.

Your argument, and others like it, simply doesn't make sense. If you were an employer then your argument would actually support your employees suing you when you allow a proven health hazard to be facilitated on your premises. To me, that doesn't make sense! Does it to you?

Similarly, if you were made ill by a deathly pollutant at your place of work and the pollutant was openly allowed by your boss I'm sure you would be looking to suing him for compensation, right? To me, that does make sense! Does it to you?

Can't have it both ways mate!

And it IS different. Riding bikes and sky-diving and all the other daft suggestions simply don't feature as a comparable argument. We've heard them all before!

BTW - I'm right up there with you re Walter Trout. Seen him many times now.... :yo:
