Quite right too Edd as do some of the woeful Analogue/Analogue/Digital transfers thrust upon us in the earlier days of the CD revolution.
Of the multitudes of Anologue Vinyl recordings I've got all bar a handfull of them sound a lot worse than their remastered remixed CD equivalents, The SQ version of Pink Floyds Dark Side Of The Moon being one of the exceptions. I've got this on SACD now and it is noticably better than the original vinyl.:p

.............PF ? Me too +++ !!!

Seen the Aussie Floyd twice @ Cheltenham Town Hall - Awesome - this year's show was fantastic. 1st half of the set was DSOM, second half was extracts from Echoes [greatest hits]. genuine 5 star - as a mediocre guitar player myself, I'd rate them as good as the original - with all the modern lasers, lightshow, back projection and all the modern PA, they've almost gone beyond...........

Have just got their DVD recorded at Liverpool Dockland - I can't begin to describe the experience - 'Wish you were here' and 'Great Gig in the Sky' brought tears to my eyes for reasons I won't bore you with here, APF can do no wrong in my book. 5.1 surround sound an' everything !!

I would love to see them @ the Royal Albert Hall date - that must a show and a half...................'Tribute band' gets nowhere near describing what they do IMHO.......................If they're good enough for Dave Gilmour and friends, they'll do for me !

Bollocks to you all

Really guys you're living in the past!
Apologies I am a little pissed and lonely this Christmas!
Ok you like the Floyd.
But if you cant find somthing a little more this decade you really are missing out!
Not everything is disco shit!
Althougth quite lot is!
however old and fat you maybe, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
By the way whole lotta led (zepplin tribute are quite good too).
Go to Hammersmith Odeon on the 21st for Starsailor with Thirteen Senses support, you will enjoy.
And Abba are pretty good whatever anyone with no credibility cares to pontificate. The sales dont lie.
Please Please Please someone sell me a Bird!

Love you all (within reason) :bow:

:yo: just got in from my partners xmas do, hence the late post, slightly merry
and i am going to bed listening to disc 2 of floyds pulse album for no better reason than it has the best version of comfortably numb ever recorded even though they use the recording from venice (original post) and not the nec where the rest of the album was recorded.
being played i might add on digital cd, through five grands worth of cd player in very nice stereo thank you very much, my electronics are english and speakers are french and not a needle in sight.

all the best

mal.

ps thanks rolfo.

and i vote all us floyd fans meet up next year at one of oz floyds gigs, what say u, answers on a post card to the usual forum man8um

Now that would be 'cos you didn't care for them properly, wouldn't it....! :yo:

Now now mate - that is impossible... due to the nature of the manufacturing process. (But I suspect you already know that really!!) :rolleyes:

Now be fair Rob I only use the ABBA and Garry Glitter Vinyl as drink coasters the rest have only been played less than four or five times when being transferred to metal tapes.:p

To be quite honest there isn't any real difference in the actuall manufacturing process as they are both pressed from a male master the big difference used to be in the recording, mixing and mastering stages with vinyl originally recorded in analogue on tape then mixed and mastered in Analogue. nowdays most music is digitally recorded and mixed and mastered apart from the tiny proportion that gets mastered to Vinyl that is obviously only converted to Analogue for the master, so with Vinyl your listening to converted digital recording anyway.
In the modern world the sample rate for Digital recording is 96KH well and truly above the threshold of human hearing and certainly high enough to render any interpolation distotion negliable plus you have the added bonus of a vastly superior signal to noise ratio and dynamic range.
Vinyl is going the way of the 8 track m8 the company I work for, Rank has abandoned vinyl and will drop VHS within the next two to three years.

Now where are my Edison wax cylinders gone :}
