Re: XXscraper - wait a min

I found this bit of good advice re Switzerland Vignettes

The Swiss require all vehicles using their motorways and certain other major roads to display a vignette (sticker). These are quite expensive, considering there is only one version for bikes and cars, and only one term (calendar year). Sometimes it makes sense to ride "horizontally" through Switzerland, rather than up and over every mountain (like when you're just trying to get through the bloody country!) Here are some tips:

1. If you enter Switzerland on a motorway, they will require you to buy a vignette. :B

2. If you enter at a smaller border crossing, they will not... :}

3. If you exit Switzerland on a motorway, they will check if you have one. :h

4. If you don't, they will require you to buy one--and fine you an additional 250%.

5. If you exit at a smaller border crossing, be sure to smile.

6. If you exit the motorway at the last possible exit before the border in order to do #5, you may meet local gendarmes on the off-ramp (see #4).

7. Swiss Autobahn Vignettes make great souvenirs!

Sorry mate but I can't get the bloody thing stamped.
The problem is that we booked a two week holiday in June (flying to Greece) and then it will leave us with another two week holiday on the bike, all around europe, again.:beer:
I addition to these holidays, Iwill be left with another 4 days for long weekending as well as the bank holidays and a fortnight at Chrismas. Thats it. They are the only holidays that I have:violin:

Try and do all you want in that short time. IMPOSSIBLE

I need another job.:mad:

Some good news I was told yesterday that I can have Saturdays off as of December. YIPEE that should make BIRD events a bit easier. One snag but, I have to work 7.30 to 6.30 Mon to Friday to compensate. What Bo##ox.:h

Need Any Help?

Sounds like a good trip, I did this in 2000 and 2001. 2002 we did the Pyrenees and Catalunya Superbike School.

If you want any advise, good hotels etc give me a mail, its the most fantastic trip BUT both years we only found one pass open. The Gottard Tunnel is hell on earth and should be avoided if possible. Simplon Pass is superb.

We stayed in Dover, 2000 Besancon, 2001 Mulhouse (French Alps) then Lugano. Lugano is a great base camp for the races. its @ 1 hour to Monza from there but the roads are fantastic.

Dont bother trying to avoid the Vignettes, they pull people on the motorway and fines are heavy!

Coming back we stopped at 2000 Troyes (too bloody far) and 2001 was Dijon. We them made it home from there in one go with a rest on the boat.

Both years we got absoultely soaked somewhere. 2000 it was in UK on the way but 2001 it pissed down from Monday after the race till about Wednesday, and it was bloody cold. Mostly the weather is Hot there in May, but you have to be prepared. Sunday at the race last year we got burnt, Monday we got very cold and very wet!

To avoid these weather problems, we are delaying a month and doing Mugello MotoGP on June 8th. Mugello is 10 mins from Florence and should be a blast as its Dicati's first GP for years so the fans will be going crazy. You could also try the Superbikes in Mizano on June 28th, but that can be too hot.

not a happy chappy

Cheers Petrosc for your email, i have pasted it below for the benefit of others. The dates for jerez have just changed which means i can't frigging go now, have only been looking forward to it for ages. Having already committed to Jerez now means i cant even go to Monza because others have already booked the time off. I cant believe this has happened :bang: all my summer plans have f***ed up.

Petrosc's email:
Monza------------800 miles --no chance....
We've decided to go to Dover on Wed. night,
have a few beers, catch the 8.00-8.30 boat to Calai and ride a few hundred miles in France, stay overnight this side of the border and the following morning do the rest of the journey.

Mostly a and b roads with as many twisties as pos. The route will be finalised in the next couple of wks. Ferries will be booked...hotels on spec...pit stops plan etc.

thank fook for that

The imortal words came through

"We can do the 14th May -23rd May as Andy has changed his holiday dates again but this date must be final."

This will do for me, so it looks like my summer is not completely stuffed, that will learn me for trying to hook up with the southern pooftahs. :shooter:

Green for go, lets hope nothing goes wrong with this plan, so hopefully Monza here we come :beer:

Mate, I think you've just answered your own question!

August is prime and those that can try to avoid it, besides have you ever tried riding a bike in full leathers in Southern Spain in August ? Well, let's just say that this is my dads idea of protective clothing in August in Malaga and he is 70 & normally very sensible (ish) :}

It was a joke directed at my place of work cos they have booked may and june which means i cant have it off (so to speak). I understand why bikers prefer not to do August.
