Last night I was riding back from Macclesfield, just an hour from home and the FI light comes on, engine cuts but I managed to coast into the village of Llansantfraid ym Mechain. Recovery and home by 10.30pm. Today full of confidence, looked at symptoms. Praise to Jaws for trying to help but still not running. Year 2000 Bird. Symptoms as follows. Switch on.... ignition and FI, Oil and Neutral lights ON. Nothing from Hiss and no sound from fuel pump. Engine turns over but obviously will not start. Checked side stand switch, kill switch, FI fuse and all other fuses, stripped out and cleaned the dreaded blank plug on loom. Shorted out the plug by rear light to see if any faults recorded.....None. Tried the spare key. I am starting to think it is a Hiss problem rather than an FI problem. Rain stopped play as I have to work outside. Forecast for next few days not good so....plenty of time to think! Can anyone who had the loom problem tell me. Did the Hiss light still come on and were there any faults showing on the FI whatsit. B*gger,B*gger,B*gger. Any SENSIBLE advice would be appreciated. P*ss off Rrobbo.

I had a "telling off" today and took it on board, so I shall leave you to stew in it,!!

A colleague of mine had the same problem and it was the Hiss, he was informed that it is a problem known to Honda but they don't broadcast it take it to a Honda dealer and they should rectify it FOC
hope this helps.

Engine stop switch (kill Switch?) had some moisture in it...dried with hair dryer(Thanks SWMBO) and when I switch it I can hear relay operating so assume both are OK. How do I check bank angle sensor or ECM? :dunno: :h Happy New Year Rrobbo and all  Surely if it was fuel pump or relay Hiss would still light up and it doesn't! :dunno:

Is a lunp
bank angle sensor

bike on centrestand, take of seat. sensor is behind battery on right handside nearly under the bar.

ignition switch on, connect the - lead of voltmeter to the GREEN terminal of the BAS connector(which must be still connected).

then connect the + lead first to the white terminal, check volts approx 12, then connect + lead to the red/white terminal check volts, 0-1 is good.

switch off ignition undo the screws, hold sensor horizontal switch ignition on, engine stop relay should click. slowly tilt sensor to the left at approx 60 degrees the engine stop relay should click again.

turn off ignition , hold sensor horizontal again, repeat above to the right, should click again around 60 degrees.

ECM

honda only as far as i know. sorry.

its alright , you should hear what he says about me to me!!!

am thinking that the HISS could be the problem here, but it is worth checking everything else first.

Battery flat in my meter. Off to Halfords, back in time to just get the cover off the bike and the saddle when the first big drop of rain landed on my head. Didn't have time to read your post thoroughly.Pulled plug off sensor and checked voltage with it unplugged and ignition on. 4.99 volts between centre pin and one side,4.09 between centre and the other. zero volts between two outer pins. Replugged the sensor and tilted it all ways. No sound of any relay operating. If the rain stops I'll go and check the voltages with it plugged in. Many thanks to all who have made suggestions. Please keep em coming. :h

I don't know if you have a third party alarm or not, but me and a mate (on a vfr vtech) were out on a ride and after switching the engine off he couldn't start it again. Everything else worked. We managed to bump-start it and he rode back to the Honda dealer.

The fault was a blown fuse in the supply to the alarm.

Well your chances of two dead keys are a bit remote.......... if you have a manual now's the time for the troubleshooting section I hope it is not the ECU cos it ain't cheap.

i know a BIRD is a big un to bump start but it can be done,

give that a try, at least you will eliminate/ prove the hiss depending if it starts , or even try a tow start, but they are scary :neenaw:

Bump start?

Maybe I'm missing something here. The engine turns over on the starter but makes no attempt to start. i don't think Hiss stops the starter motor turning, does it. I thought Hiss prevented the fuel pump operating. Am I wrong?
