HeHe8rfl@.. Yeah, it was on the right one.. I even sucked on the pipe to make sure fuel flowed before I put the fuel pipes back on.
Just a very easy way of checking whether any motor is running properly other than fuel starvation.god wendy is that your way to fix every thing with cold start
This might be a daft suggestion but , a few years ago I had similar symptoms on one of my bikes (can't remember which ) and it turned out the breather in the filler cap was blocked. Don't know if the 'bird has one in the cap or whether it is separate , but its just a thought . :dunno:
Right... Strange developements..
Tried to start the bird this morning.. no chance
Came home from work today, started first time... Ran for 5 mins or so, then stopped suddenly as usual...
As I stood there staring at it thinking dark thoughts, I noticed smoke coming out from under the seat!!!
I quickly got the seat off, but by this time the smoke was gone, only leaving a smell of burning electrics..
I started the bike again it started first touch gave a huge backfire then ran sweet as a nut.@tu*
nothing got hot enough to smoke again altho the rectifier (I think) got warm very quickly, but never got overly hot..
I took my chance and took it out for a quick spin... it ran fine for a while then backfired again, but carried on seemingly ok..
Does this give any clues as to what it might befl4g71
Why the smoke?? why the backfire?? Why me?? :violin:
Ignore Robsbird. He doesn't understand 'Help' section rules and hasn't got a proper Blackbird anyway:-0)
As you say, strange indeed. The backfiring I would guess is just the "cylinders" emptying themselves after the motor has previously cut out.
Start with he basics - get a really bright torch and inspect every bit of wiring you can see. If there was smoke there will be evidence of heat somewhere. fortunatley the complicated bits of wiring are at the front end of the bike so shouldn't be too difficult to visually inspect the rest. Get your head in these as well and use your nose.
Typical Bird electrical fault is genreg/rec failing and taking out the generator while also frying the battery. Not normally with the symptoms you describe though.
Keep posting.

I'm with Andy on this. Follow your nose and find the frying wires.
typical banker always missing the point .............
as they say there is not smoke with out fire............ my point was there must be some thing getting HOT to make the smoke
