This bit for the Gopro has a cable plenty long enough to stick the USB well under cover, it's actually 150cm long or 5ft, and as I said, I mounted my USB "only waterproof when the lid is on" behind the screen so no water gets forced into it, and if I REALLY wanted, I could wrap a bag around it to stop any ingress of water  or even stick it under the seat, but as yet I've not had any problems like that!! :-0)

More questions from me ( sorry ! )

As mentioned, I know feck all about the gopro stuff, so ....

1) How long does a standard battery last ?

2) is there a screen on the back, if not ( same question as above ) how do you align the thing ?

I would say the battery life timings are optimistic, on tour i carry 5 and am lucky to get 40 mins out of a fully charged battery, temperature also has an effect, i have now bought an on board power supply, i cant fault the quality of the recordings.

Batteries : it varies massively : https://gopro.com/support/articles/hero4-camera-battery-life

Some have screens, some detachable screens but most now are using wifi so you use your mobile for playback, aiming etc

Bloody good point.. This is why I need all the help I can get !!

It is unlikely I will be a big user of one on the bike to be honest. And if I did I would get a plug in back as Robbo suggests
More interested in snowboarding and that sort of usage hence the battery question R#?

But it does seem a spare battery or two needs to be on the shopping list

I have the Roadhawk bike cam as well. Excellent piccies, but I'm on my third unit now as they have all stopped working off bike power.
I won't be getting another one.
The one I have at the moment has also stopped working off bike power ( water gets past the back cover nylon grommet and stops it setting up). It still works for about 80 mins if charged off the bike and set to record off battery.

I have seen a new type advertised recently that looked good.. I'll try to find it!

Murt

I've had several roadhawk ride models returned to and replaced by dogcamsport; always the same problem - the mini usb connector on the back of the unit failing.
They are apparently "sourcing a new lead for the roadhawk ride at the moment"
I have it on my helmet and run it off a maplin battery pack in my pocket.

Going to try this one below - the ride+ for the wife's bike - it'll be fitted under the fairing and wired in to the ignition for auto on/off. As it'll hopefully not be disturbed too often (only when we need to access the micro sd card for information) I'm hoping it will last longer!! Hoping!!
She want's a discreet one, and doesn't want half a brick which is easily spotted by nurks on the road. :whi5tl:

As Gopro's go, a second hand Hero 3 silver is a very good starting point, are selling on the bay of fleas for between £185 and £240 dependent on condition ETC, though I suspect they will be going down in price at Grimbo, due to people having bought the Hero 4 Black for Christmas, there is an entry level Gopro Hero that sells at £109.99 http://gopro.madison.co.uk/p/gopro-hero

Though this unit may not fit the majority of Gopro spares and housings sold on the flea bay!! I'm not sure as I haven't got one!!
