Any body got any advice on digital camera's like GoPro?
Have been considering one, secured to the helmet so it videos what you see, but does it make a lot of wind noise? Can you tell it is there does it cause buffeting/turbulence?
Can they be started / stopped by a remote switch on the handlebars? What make / brand ?
Cheers Scudie

Have a look at Innovation Drift Ghost S. More aerodynamic than Go-Pro, you can turn the lens so it films the right way up irrespective of camera orientation, fairly waterproof without the need for a separate case and you can easily put on an external mic for vlogging. Comes with separate remote control also.

Have a look on you tube for people like Baron von Grumble, Quentin Redbeard, Tritriplekylie, WeemRCB, Red Renna etc. They seem to use Drift.

I find them quite amusing and entertaining.

Tempted to try vlogging myself, except I'm a boring ladyparts with nothing interesting to talk about.

I have a contour, can't fault it.

I look on Contour as 'Betamax' and Gopro as 'vhs'.
Betamax was better but the marketing of vhs made it the winner.

I use Gopro, not cheap, but a mount is available for EVERY situation, and best bit, they can all be got from China, just get onto the Gopro web site and have a look at what they can do, and don't discount second hand one's, they are every bit as good as most of the pretenders, I mount mine on the bike, front and back, I have 3 now. although I occasionally use a helmet mount though not happy with pictures of my speedo being seen!! so avoid doing it that way!!

This is done with a Gopro silver. and the case was getting a bit mucky toward the back end of the film!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeN7a5jLJhA

I use a roadhawk Ride bullet cam - most of the other cams only last 2 or three hours and have fitted batteries so you can't swap them out. I run my helmet-mounted Ride of a large (fag packet size) maplin USB battery pack in my inside pocket, although they can be run off the bike too. Got mine form dogcamsport. Runs a 32gb micro sd card on loop record, which does about 8 hours before looping over first images.

Must admit, after fitting a unit ( only a cheapo one ) on the bike I never really used it.. I just could not be arsed to get off and turn it on ( mounted away from where I can reach it easily as there is no where for it to go that is handy from the saddle)

If it had a remote on off button it would be used a lot more ! ( But I aint that interested that I wanna spend ?250+ on something !!! )

As an aside, both Darrell and the other guy we did Scotland with have Go-Pro units fitted.. and they did pretty much the same as me !

The Mobius is small enough to mount just under the nose of the BB.

It can be programmed on a pc to switch on as soon as it sees ignition live.

All you need for the feed is a 12v usb supply.

Only ?46.31 and stocked in a UK warehouse

That would be ideal as a permanent recorder especially with the auto power up and the looped recording BUT it does look like it could be susceptible to water with the openings at the back.

How do you find it?
By 12v usb supply do you mean a socket to plug the usb into?

I tend to ride mostly in the dry but a balloon stretched over the back seems to have done the job when we have been caught out in the rain.

You can get a small usb power supply that has two wires to connect to 12v and hides away neatly inside the nose.
Like this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-to-5V...hash=item58ca196fc3:m:ma2P5gVlofP-DR60RsBpUyw

Question
All of those units that do not have a screen on them.. How do you set them up without a shed load of faffing about ?

I have a Gopro 2 which hardly ever gets used. I find it to be a right pita to set up. Although it has given some decent results on the rare occasions I have used it... here's one

All the 'setting up' was done by just looking and hoping for the best.

Since then I have used it on another tour round Scotland, taking loads of overtakes and closely following a mate through some bends and stuff only to find it wasn't actually switched on:bang: :bang:

Now confined to drawer 101 with my electric gloves.

The Mobius can act like a CCTV camera so you leave it plugged in to the laptop and view the image whilst you set it up.

After setup - the mount stays fixed to the bike and you clip the camera in and out of it.

The contour bluetooths to my phone while setting up the viewing angle. Once ready the recording can also be started from the phone.
The contour also has gps which if I remember correctly (I've not tried it) can show your position on google maps as the film runs.

ps. It had a lot of these nice functions well before the gopro.

The Gopro 3 and above can be "set up" by linking to your smart phone, or even by a screen "bought separately" so you can see what your recording, mine are bike powered, you can also see on your phone whilst still out what you've recorded without having to download it to a computer!!

Not really what I am after Ian, but appreciate the info
I would want a simple button on the bars or somewhere similar that can be pressed without any faff
